Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Identity Reveal Has A Hilarious MCU Consequence

The reveal in Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s mid-credits scene has a hilarious consequence for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jon Watts and Tom Holland’s latest Marvel Studios project has some of the best credits scenes in the entire Marvel franchise, teasing what’s to come for the title character personally and for the universe overall. Aside from the obvious repercussions Peter Parker now faces with his identity being known, there’s a funny realization for those villains Spider-Man fought before.

Spider-Man: Far From Home had to iron out a lot of details coming off of Thanos’ success and eventual defeat in Avengers: Endgame. It’s the first film to reveal the state of the universe following “The Blip”. Meanwhile, as Peter Parker grapples with the death of Tony Stark/Iron Man, he goes on a much-needed trip to Europe with his peers to unwind. However, things don’t go according to plan after his vacation is hijacked by Nick Fury, resulting in Spider-Man teaming up with Quentin Beck/Mysterio to fight supposed new villains called the Elementals. Ultimately, it’s revealed that everything was a scheme by Mysterio to gain access to Stark’s E.D.I.T.H via the sunglasses left in Peter’s care.

While Peter ultimately defeats Mysterio in the final battle in London, Beck had one final ploy against the hero. In Far From Home’s mid-credits scene, the hero swings around Manhattan with new girlfriend MJ (Zendaya), suddenly stopping to watch a newscast on a billboard, which turns out to be the villain’s final message framing Spider-Man for his death and outing his real identity as Peter Parker. Obviously, this sets up what comes next for the character in Spider-Man 3, making things more dangerous for Peter and everyone he’s associated with. Other than this, however, there’s a smaller, funnier consequence from the revelation that Spider-Man is a teen: those whom he defeated before now realize that they were defeated by a teenager.

Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Identity Reveal Has A Hilarious MCU Consequence

Peter was already secretly operating as a local hero in Queens before Stark recruited him for Captain America: Civil War. Although it’s not revealed if he actively fought crooks or just swung by to save the day, he didn’t really commit to the cause until after his experience in Germany where he faced other Avengers. Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) in particular had a difficult time getting away from Spider-Man. Peter easily blocked Bucky’s metal arm punch while also strapping Falcon to the ground, hindering him from using his wings. While they all gathered during Endgame‘s final battle, and subsequently during Stark’s funeral, the new Captain America and White Wolf were never informed of Spider-Man’s real identity – until its big reveal in Far From Home‘s mid-credits scene. Now, the duo realize they struggled to fight a kid, which might somehow bruise their personal egos given their military training. Perhaps they can make a passing comment about this on their upcoming Disney+ show, The Falcon and Winter Soldier.

Other than his fellow MCU heroes, other small-time criminals that Peter faced during his stint as Spider-Man are also coming to the realization that they were up against a teenager. That includes the Avenger-wearing masks robbers in Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as Scorpion/Mac Gargan (Michael Mando) who asked Vulture (Michael Keaton) about the web-slinging hero’s real identity in that 2017 movie’s mid-credits scene. From that stinger, it does seem like Gargan is interested in making sure Spider-Man pays for locking him up in jail. It’s curious if any of Peter Parker’s previous foes will come back to exact revenge on him now that his real identity as Spider-Man is out, but one thing is for sure, the young hero’s life will be much more dangerous moving forward, especially with villains also potentially targeting those close to him.
