Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer Showcases Lots of New Footage

A new Spider-Man: Far From Home TV spot includes a slew of never-before-seen footage. In less than six weeks, the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel also directed by Jon Watts will roll out in theaters. Supposedly the final film entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3, it will see the return of Peter Parker as the friendly neighborhood hero after being dusted off in Avengers: Infinity War and eventual resurrection in Avengers: Endgame.

Far From Home will see Peter traveling with his schoolmates to Europe for a vacation where he’s going to develop a closer relationship with MJ (Zendaya) who figures out his secret identity. But his much-needed break doesn’t seem like it’s going to be much of that with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) recruiting him for a new mission that will team him up with Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Fans of the comic books know, however, of Beck’s conniving ways which means that Spider-Man is due for a shocker when he realizes that his newfound friend may not be exactly the ally he thinks he is. As Far From Home‘s release nears, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment are ramping up on the sequel’s marketing with the release of a slew of promo materials such as this latest 30-second spot.

Shared on YouTube by Jayden Marvel is a short Korean promo clip for Far From Home with tons of new footage from the film including an extended version of Peter and Happy’s (Jon Favreau) heart-to-heart talk aboard a private jet where the latter assures the former that he’s got whatever mission lies in front of him. There’s also a more stern pep talk from Fury saying that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) made Peter an Avengers and the world needs that. But the main takeaway from the video is MJ running towards an unmasked Spider-Man (who seems to be wearing his new black and red suit) for a hug. Watch it below:

The clip is geared towards Peter’s relationships with some of the supporting characters in Far From Home. Fans can notice the change in demeanor from Happy after his cold treatment of the young hero in Homecoming. Knowing how Peter was important to Tony, the two bond over their shared loss over the death of Iron Man, which is expected to be a central issue in the sequel. Favreau describes his character in the film as Hagrid-like from the Harry Potter franchise. Meanwhile, Fury is a stricter mentor who can be harsh at times. Despite this, MCU followers know that it’s just his way of motivating his heroes. It worked several times with Tony as seen in Iron Man 2 and their conversation in Hawkeye’s farm in Avengers: Age of Ultron, so this different type of mentorship will ultimately help Peter’s growth as a hero. In addition, the newest clip further emphasizes the development of Peter and MJ’s romantic relationship.

There’s so much narrative that Spider-Man: Far From Home needs to juggle. On top of dealing with the loss of his personal mentor, Peter also needs to grapple with the idea that he was gone for five years, this is a detail that the movie definitely should address since it was a big part on driving the stakes of Endgame. If the sequel simply glosses over it, then it cheapens the latest Avengers movie. There’s also the idea of the multiverse finally coming to play in the MCU after only being teased in previous movies. Amidst many moving particles, the flick hopefully doesn’t lose sight of the fact that at its core, it’s a Spider-Man film.
