Spider-Man Cosplay Takes New Black Suit from Sketch to Reality

Spider-Man Cosplay Takes New Black Suit from Sketch to Reality

Marvel’s Friendly Neighborhood Hero, Spider-Man, is a wall-crawling, web-slinging icon of the comic book industry, with his arachnid-inspired set of red and blue spandex recognized around the world as one of the best and most popular superhero costumes of all time. Similarly, Spidey’s black symbiote suit has an equally iconic visual look, with the original unused mock-up of Spider-Man’s darkest suit finally getting the cosplay treatment it deserves.

Recently shared on Instagram by Jaden (@thatsubscriberguy), this talented cosplayer has tried their hand at creating and wearing a few different Spider-Man costumes over the years, with this specific Klyntar-based design showing off Peter Parker’s heroic alter ego in a way never seen before in the live-action space.

Dressing in Spidey’s tried and true red and blue costume, his comic-accurate black symbiote suit, and even the simple threads of regular old Peter Parker, Jaden has also cosplayed as DC Comics’ Batman, Red Hood, Robin, and Riddler, all to stunning results.

A cosplay inspired by an image submitted to a Marvel-sponsored competition from 1982 geared toward allowing fans to create new characters and stories, Randy Schueller, then only 22 years old, drew Spidey in a sleek black and red colored bodysuit, explaining in his headcanon that it was developed with input from The Wasp and Reed Richards and was a self-repairing set of threads that unfortunately never became canon. Buying the concept from Schueller, Marvel went on to tweak the design to the black and white suit it eventually became and even retconned its origin to be Klyntar in nature.

Giving fans a live-action look that would fit right in on the big screen, Jaden’s heavily textured black suit and large white eyes sell the formidable nature of Spider-Man’s symbiote design, with Jaden’s over-the-shoulder stare being a glance that could easily stop both criminals and heroes in their tracks. Thanks to the turned pose Jaden hits, Spider-Man’s back logo is clearly visible, with its blood-red coloring successfully bringing this look in line with Schueller’s art while adding a new and unique element to a Spider-Man design that’s already as simple and memorable as it gets.

Black Suit Spider-Man Gets A Cosplay Design That Needs A Proper Comic Debut

While Spider-Man did wear a similar black and red stealth suit in 2016’s Spider-Man/Deadpool #8 when he and Wade teamed up to do some under-the-radar superheroing, this specific black suit design was never given its proper due until Jaden (@thatsubscriberguy) saw its cosplay potential. It’s doubtful Marvel will go back and use this concept costume now that it has evolved into something even more iconic as a key part of the Venom character, so it’s good to know that the cosplay community can still do justice to Spider-Man designs lost to the annals of comic history.
