Marvel’s Mech Strike: Monster Hunters has revealed Spider-Gwen‘s vicious new mech suit, which makes a major change to the hero, turning her into the deadliest hero in the Spider-Verse. Following the events of Avengers: Mech Strike, Mech Strike: Monster Hunters #1 features Doctor Doom’s team of magically mutated villains and the return of the Avengers’ powerful mech suits.
Jed MacKay and Carlos Magno’s Avengers: Mech Strike reimagined the Avengers in incredible mech suits that helped channel the heroes’ powers in new ways. In this storyline, the Avengers faced off against Kang the Conqueror, battling through time. Mech Strike: Monster Hunters gives Doctor Doom possession of the Eye of Kraken, granting him mystical abilities that allow him to fuse villains’ DNA with animal DNA. As of issue #1, Doctor Doom’s team includes Venom, Loki, and the Green Goblin. To combat these enhanced villains, Marvel’s heroes need Doctor Strange’s help to improve their mech suits.
Ahead of the comic series and its tie-in toy line, Marvel HQ has released a trailer on YouTube promising exciting new enhancements to Ghost-Spider’s mech. After summarizing the events that led to the creation of Doctor Doom’s super-powerful villains, Doctor Strange explains the upgrades Gwen Stacy’s suit will receive. Using a mystical monster eye, Strange promises to temporarily level Gwen up by enhancing her spider-powers. These changes include retractable spider arms, an enhanced exoskeleton with sharp edges, upgraded web-shooters with stronger webs, and enhanced predator instincts, so she never hesitates to strike. These mystical changes to Gwen’s mech suit are comparable to Peter Parker’s unlocked warrior potential in Savage Spider-Man, transforming her into a deadly hero whose morality is restrained from getting in the way.
Each of Doctor Strange’s enhancements to Gwen Stacy’s mech suit make her a formidable opponent for Doctor Doom’s mutated villains. However, the most impressive of these upgrades is her ability to tap into her predator instincts. By unleashing Gwen’s instincts to their full extent, Mech Strike: Monster Hunters will feature a Spider-Gwen who possesses an unprecedented killer instinct. Doctor Strange has unlocked Gwen’s full potential, making her a powerful force to be reckoned with. As Marvel’s End of the Spider-Verse event approaches, fans shouldn’t be surprised if Gwen’s mech gets to return for a multiversal battle, killer instinct and all.
