South Park Season 25 Releases in February on Comedy Central

South Park season 25 will air on Comedy Central later this year. South Park first debuted in August 1997, and has so far run for 309 broadcast episodes, as well as a 1999 animated feature film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, which earned an Academy Award nomination. The show has received widespread critical acclaim and popularity for its dark, surrealist humor, profanity, and satire of multiple topics.

And it seems that the program’s popularity is showing no sign of slowing down, as a press release from South Park‘s official website revealed that the 25th season of the show will air on Comedy Central on February 2, kicking off with six brand new episodes. Read comments below from Chris McCarthy, CEO, and President of ViacomCBS Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios, which owns Comedy Central:

“For the past 25 years, multiple generations of fans have grown up enchanted by the outlandishly funny and subversive world that Matt and Trey have created with South Park. As part of our expansive new deal, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with them for many more seasons of South Park on Comedy Central and many more made-for-streaming South Park exclusive events on Paramount+.”

South Park is one of Comedy Central’s highest-rated programs, so it comes as little surprise that MTV Entertainment Studios’ deal with co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker includes extending South Park through 2027 on Comedy Central. As a flagship show, it makes sense creatively and financially to continue producing episodes, so fans can expect further seasons of the show to follow. How long the series might run is unclear right now, and Park and Stone recently released a statement saying, “To be halfway done with South Park is a great accomplishment-we can’t lie.” While it is almost certain the pair were joking, it may suggest that the two have no plans to end the series any time in the near future.
