Sorry Poison Ivy: Harley Quinn Has Literal Heart Eyes for 1 Justice League Hero

WARNING: Potential Spoilers for DC’s Spring Breakout #1!Poison Ivy might need to step up her romance game, as it appears that Harley Quinn is developing feelings for a Justice League hero. While this newfound crush adds a layer of wholesomeness and humor to Harley’s character, it also carries significant implications since the hero she’s smitten with could potentially become her most powerful ally yet.

Spring has arrived with DC’s Spring Breakout special, an 80-page anthology featuring eight short stories. Among these tales is Field Trip by Joey Esposito and Vasco Georgiev, a Harley Quinn-centric story in which the Gotham Siren takes it upon herself to liberate King Shark from Belle Reve Penitentiary to host an unforgettable birthday bash for her fellow Suicide Squad teammate.

As Harley and Nanaue hurtle towards the ground, Superman swoops in and catches the duo before they meet a grisly fate. The moment Clark secures Harley safely in his arms, the Gotham Siren’s eyes light up with literal Superman-themed hearts, indicating that even she is not immune to the Man of Steel’s heroics and charm. Unlike the other heroes Harley and Nanaue came across before their encounter with Superman, Clark treats them both with respect, welcoming Harley to Metropolis and addressing her as “Dr. Quinzel.” This display of respect and kindness leaves the Gotham Siren utterly smitten with the hero.

However, Harley, King Shark, and Superman’s impromptu meeting is abruptly disrupted by Mister Mxyzptlk, who whisks all three of them away to a fifth-dimensional pocket of reality. With Kal-El incapacitated, it falls upon Harley to repay his heroics with some heroics of her own. Demonstrating her ability to control the fifth dimension as effortlessly as Mister Mxyzptlk, Harley constructs a cosmic mallet and uses it to defeat the imp, earning the title of Superman’s hero. Upon their return to Belle Reve, Superman expresses his gratitude to Harley and fabricates a story to Amanda Waller to ensure they evade trouble for their jailbreak.

While Clark Kent is committed to his relationship with Lois Lane, there remains platonic potential between Superman and Harley. This short story lays the groundwork for a promising friendship between the two. Not only does Superman treat Harley with respect and kindness, but they also demonstrate great teamwork. Hopefully, there will be more stories in the future featuring this duo, especially considering that Field Trip was one of the standout tales in DC’s Spring Breakout anthology. This status as the best short story is undoubtedly owed to the entertaining and chemistry-filled dynamic between Harley Quinn and Superman.
