The Wilds season 2 finally dropped today, and the Amazon Prime Video series has hit the ground running once more. The tension-filled drama follows a group of girls whose plane crashes in the wilderness and forces them to work together in order to survive. Since the first season operated on two timelines, viewers are able to simultaneously witness them on the island and being questioned after the rescue.
However, The Wilds added yet another timeline to the mix in season 2, and now audiences bear witness to a “control group” of boys stranded in another location – all orchestrated under the direction of the sociopathic scientist Gretchen Klein (Rachel Griffiths, Saving Mr. Banks), of course. But fear not, everyone’s favorite ladies are still very present through the series and have many demons to face.
Sophia Ali, Shannon Berry, and Jenna Clause – who play Fatin, Dot and Martha respectively – spoke to Screen Rant about the biggest lessons they learned from the first season and how their arcs play out in the second.
Screen Rant: Can you each go through and give me how you would tease your arc in one sentence?
Shannon Berry: This chick [Dot] is retired and loving life! Most of the time.
Jenna Clause: [Martha] is confronting her own self head on.
Sophia Ali: [Fatin] is realizing that her sources aren’t unreliable.
Can you guys tell me the biggest lesson you took from season 1 into season 2?
Shannon Berry: Working in the elements, there’s always going to be tough days. And there’s going to be days where you’re so cold, you’re shivering your nips off.
I think it’s just dealing with the elements again. I felt very prepared for water scenes. You know what you’re going into now, and you’re spending a lot of days outdoors. Which is kind of the best. I do love the outdoor days, being in nature and breathing in that fresh air. But I think season 1 just really prepared us for shooting in the elements again.
Jenna Clause: I think my biggest lesson is more so actor-wise. I felt more challenged with the arc that Martha goes through. But at the same time, I feel like there was an element of me thriving in that, because I’ve been dying for Martha to confront her own demons.
Sophia Ali: I think Fatin is definitely more empowered in a lot of ways. She’s kind of arrogant, you know? And it can be a good thing, especially in that scenario, because you don’t want to feel insecure. That’s for sure. But sometimes she can be eating her words, and I think that she leveled up in that sense, She realized, “Oh, I can be wrong.”
And for me, I would say it’s actually kind of the same thing. I can’t think of an example, but I feel like part of growing up for me lately has been just realizing that everything is new and different, and I can’t apply stuff I already know. I can to a certain extent, but I don’t know everything.
If you actually had to duel it out between the Twilight of Adam and the Dawn of Eve, who would you be voting for?
Shannon Berry: Look, we’ve got to back ourselves selves up here. I’ve gotta win. I’ve gotta be my best advocate; gotta back myself up. It’s us!
Are you kidding? The women. And that’s not even because I’m like, “The boys don’t deserve it.” No, they would get their ass kicked so hard. Like, it’s not even a competition.
The Wilds Synopsis
A group of teen girls from different backgrounds must fight for survival after a plane crash strands them on a deserted island. The castaways both clash and bond as they learn more about each other, the secrets they keep, and the traumas they’ve all endured. There’s just one twist to this thrilling drama… these girls did not end up on this island by accident.
Survival hangs in the balance after the explosive discovery that what’s happening to them is an elaborate social experiment.
