Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Honest Trailer Celebrates The Redesign

Screen Junkies has returned with its latest Honest Trailer, this time tackling Sonic the Hedgehog. The Sonic film has done nothing but impress at the box office. After a month, it surpassed Detective Pikachu as the highest-grossing video game film in North America. Its surprise success can be thanked in large part to Paramount delaying the film so Sonic himself could get a makeover. This was a new precedent for Hollywood, showing it was willing to listen to the fanbase in order to deliver a more accurate product.

Sonic’s success is particularly impressive, considering it still hasn’t opened in Japan or China due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s not known what the release plans are once theaters open back up. Critically, Sonic stands above most video game adaptations with a solid 64 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Jim Carrey’s portrayal of Doctor Robotnik has been acclaimed by many viewers. Many are hoping a sequel is announced soon. One box office analyst believes Paramount will greenlight a Sonic sequel once the coronavirus shutdown comes to an end. Director Jeff Fowler himself is excited for having Sonic and Tails together in a potential sequel. It seems inevitable, but fans will have to wait and see. Although there is plenty to like in Sonic the Hedgehog, there are also a number of things to poke fun at. As expected, the Honest Trailer has arrived for the job.

Sonic the Hedgehog has received its Honest Trailer via Screen Junkies, poking fun at the lack of Sonic Drive-In product placement, Sonic’s redesign phenomenon, and more. Somehow, the video is able to compare Sonic to Pennywise the Clown from It. Check out the video below.

There are certainly some humorous things the Honest Trailer make note of. One of the biggest is all the product placement – Olive Garden, Optical Illusions, Amazon, and yet the Sonic Drive-In restaurant was not utilized. In fact, prior to the film’s release, Paramount had a marketing deal with Jack in the Box, despite there being a restaurant called Sonic. This might forever remain a mystery. The video also pokes fun at the fact Sonic remains in a car a good chunk of the story, despite being far faster than any vehicle.

Outside of movies, the Sonic franchise appears to be getting new content, though news has been delayed for now. Currently, IDW has a successful Sonic comic book run, which will be achieving #30 in just three issues. It is certainly a good time to be a Sonic the Hedgehog fan.
