A new Sonic the Hedgehog fan made poster imagines what Jim Carrey will look like as Dr. Robotnik. Dr. Robotnik, commonly referred to as Dr. Eggman, made his first appearance alongside the famous blue hedgehog in 1991 as part of the first ever Sonic the Hedgehog game. Since he’s Sonic’s arch enemy, Dr. Robotnik will be appearing in the first ever live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie this year.
Carrey was cast as Robotnik back in June 2018, and fans are still waiting to get a first look at the character. It was once believed that Carrey had been spotted on set, but those images actually turned out to be of actor Frank C. Turner. The only real look fans have gotten at the movie came in the form of a few teaser posters for Sonic the Hedgehog. Both of these posters have been ripped apart from people on the internet, with many people deeming Sonic’s new look just downright creepy. Now that some time has passed, and Sonic the Hedgehog‘s marketing team have responded to the backlash, a new fan poster has come out.

Posting on his Instagram account, willgray_art has shared his interpretation of Carrey as the villain Dr. Robotnik. This fan art remains faithful to the video game character, giving Carrey a bald head, tinted blue sunglasses, and a red mustache. The only huge deviation the artist makes from the source material is making the character’s mustache a normal size, as compared to the character’s usual comically-sized facial hair. The poster even includes the official tagline and logo for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Willgray_art‘s full post can be seen below.
While Carrey will play the movie’s villain, the cast has also grown considerably since the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog was announced. James Marsden has been cast as the human lead, a police officer accompanying Sonic on his journey. Adam Pally and Neal McDonough have also joined the cast, along with Tika Sumpter who will play another female lead. As for the voice of the main character, Ben Schwartz will voice Sonic for Paramount’s movie.
Since Paramount hasn’t quite sold people on Sonic’s live-action look just yet, it’s crucial that they don’t also mess up the look of his arch-enemy. Since Robotnik is a human, he should be a bit easier to adapt for a live-action movie, and Paramount should definitely take some pointers from this fan art. This artist not only nails the iconic look of Dr. Robotnik, but he also created a version of the character that looks truly creepy. Since Sonic the Hedgehog is coming out in less than a year, Paramount still has time to get people on board with their live-action movie, and finally releasing a first look image of Carrey as Dr. Robotnik could do just that.
