Sonic the Hedgehog 3 star Ben Schwartz has shared a major production update in a new behind-the-scenes photo for the upcoming video game movie. Schwartz is the voice of Sonic in Paramount’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film series, reprising the role in the upcoming sequel. The movie will feature the on-screen debut of Shadow the Hedgehog, seemingly pulling inspiration from the game Sonic Adventure 2.
Now, Schwartz has shared a behind-the-scenes image from the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, confirming voice recording has begun.
The image shows the actor looking into the camera while near a microphone for recording. He also holds up a piece of paper, which appears to be the front page of the film’s script.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Could Be The Series’ Biggest Film Yet
Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘s post-credits scene set the stage for the next movie, introducing Project Shadow and its connections to Dr. Robotnik. A recent logo reveal also indicates the film will be pulling heavily from the black and red hedgehog’s debut game. This is further indicated by actor Alyla Browne, who will be portraying Maria, Shadow’s deceased friend in the game series.
Shadow’s appearance also opens the door for aspects of his titular game, 2005’s Shadow the Hedgehog, to influence parts of the film’s story. While specific plot details have yet to be confirmed, references to Black Doom and his alien army are possible. However, with so many aspects of the new character’s backstory that will likely be explored, it’s unclear what influences beyond Sonic Adventure 2 will be shown.
No matter the story to come, though, Schwartz’s update is a positive sign that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is on track to come out at the end of the year. With Jim Carrey returning as Robotnik alongside the other franchise stars, the film is sure to feel just as adventurous and funny as the previous two installments. More information is sure to be revealed as production on the movie develops.
