Sonic Frontiers Bans Filming At Gamescom Following Spoilers

Sonic Frontiers Bans Filming At Gamescom Following Spoilers

New spoilers from the upcoming Sonic Frontiers have surfaced at Gamescom, prompting a ban on fan recording. A new trailer for Sonic Frontiers premiered earlier this week, revealing new information about the title. Now it seems even more about the open-world Sonic title has been revealed without the permission of Sega.

Sonic Frontiers is the first open-world title in the history of the Sonic series, and the bits of storyline that have been teased for the game appear to offer some unique twists to the universe, characters, and narrative. Originally planned to release along the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Frontiers developers opted to delay the game in an effort to give it more polish. Some long-time fans have had some reservations about the game, taking issue with things like Sonic Frontiers‘ seemingly barren landscape. However, the Germany-based Gamescom event revealed promising new footage for the title.

A ban has been imposed on fan-filming of Sonic Frontiers at Gamescom following online leaks, GamesRadar reports. While the Sonic Frontiers demo booth limited fan time with the game to 15 minutes, the game’s autosave feature was mistakenly not disabled, allowing for each player to make further progress into the title and uncover previously unknown details. Many proceeded to post these spoilers online, with the Twitter account Sonic_Frontier dedicating itself to leaked Gamescom information on the game. Following a massive amount of spoiler posting, a filming ban has been imposed for the duration of Gamescom.

While some under-wraps features about Sonic Frontiers, like Big the Cat’s inclusion as part of a fishing minigame, were leaked previously, some information that’s come from the Gamescom demo is completely new. Some of these spoilers include the fact that this game will include the first 3D underwater swimming of the series, complete with oxygen meter, and new examples of the game’s voice acting. Fan reservations about Sonic Frontiers first began when there was only minimal footage shown of the game, as it gave players very little to base their opinions on. Now that more has been revealed – albeit some of it against Sega’s wishes – thoughts on the game may begin to sway in a more positive direction.

Sonic Frontiers has a lot of fan expectations to live up to, and also faces steep competition from the other games set to come out this November, particularly the new God of War which Sonic Frontiers shares an exact release date with. The more fans get to observe about the game, the more the work behind it becomes evident. Many Sonic veterans that may have had reservations about the title when it was announced may find their fears have turned to excitement over time, although fans will have to reserve their final opinions for when Sonic Frontiers releases on November 8th.
