Something Is Killing The Children: Erica Slaughter’s Origin To Be Revealed

Erica Slaughter has been at the forefront of the series so far. She is a monster hunter who has been trying to do the right thing, regardless of what the leaders of the House of Slaughter want her to do. She has been seen disagreeing with the society’s methods of dealing with monsters and with bystanders. Erica has continually criticized the society for being more concerned with covering up monsters and their horrific actions than eliminating monsters and preserving human life. The upcoming arc could provide an in-depth look into when Erica’s dislike for the society actually arose and why.

Part of Erica’s origin is known as a result of Something is Killing the Children #9. In this issue, Erica tells James about when she first saw monsters and how they left her an orphan. She reveals that she was saved by someone who was part of the society. This was her first interaction with them and she says that she trained with them. There have also been brief moments throughout the series where she has interacted with other society members and mentioned training. What isn’t known is who saved Erica, what the House of Slaughter requires for membership, and how members of the House become members. So far, there has only been one type of monster, although it is implied that there are many more. The new Something is Killing the Children arc may introduce readers to more monsters – of the shadow AND human variety.
