“Someone Isn’t Going to Survive”: Transformers Promises a Major Character Death as Devastator Attacks the Autobots

The first arc of Skybound’s smash success Transformers series is coming to a close with the sixth issue, and the Energon Universe looks set to close out this opening story-line with a bang. With the issue’s solicitation promising the death of a major character, fan speculation is already running wild over who won’t survive the cataclysmic events of the issue…

Transformers #6 will see the Autobots under siege from the gigantic Devastator, as seen in unlettered preview art for Transformers#6, courtesy of Skybound, ahead of the issue’s March 13 release.

The blistering action and high emotional stakes that fans have grown accustomed to expect from this exciting new era of Transformers are on full display in the preview, however there’s no way to know which character will meet their end in the issue. The issue’s summary reads:

END OF STORY ARC! ONE WILL STAND, ONE WILL FALL. The Autobots vs. The Decepticons. This is it. And someone isn’t going to survive.

One Shall Stand, One Shall Fall: Which Character Will Die In New Transformers?

The Cover Teases Optimus Prime Will Die – & Bumblebee’s Death Proves It’s Possible

Since the issue’s summary promises “someone isn’t going to survive,” fans must ask the question: which character is going to bite the big one? The provocative cover seems to be setting up the death of Optimus Prime, recalling the infamous plot twist that traumatized fans of the 1986 movie. Since the first issue kicked things off with the brutal execution of the fan-favorite Bumblebee at the hands of Starscream, it’s clear anything is possible in the Energon Universe. Yet perhaps Johnson and co. are planning a swerve. Starscream’s leadership of the evil Transformers faction could be coming to an end now that Megatron is revealed to still be alive…

New Transformers FINALLY Answers the Question of Where Megatron Has Been

Megatron has been MIA since the launch of the new Transformers series, but now fans finally have an answer to the question, “Where is Megatron?”

Of course, there is always the possibility that the dead character won’t be a Transformer at all, but rather one of their human allies. Spike Witwicky has been laid up in the hospital since he was shot in issue #3, and killing off the franchise’s main human character would be a huge swerve. Fans must also keep a close eye on Spike’s dad Sparkplug, as evidenced by the flashback that opens the preview that depicts Sparky seeing the ghost of his deceased eldest child. Opening the issue in such a way might suggest some kind of ending for Spike’s dad.

Transformers Is Also Losing an Artist

Daniel Warren Johnson Remains as Writer, But Hands Art Over to Jorge Corona

One person who won’t be returning for Transformers #7 will be Daniel Warren Johnson; at least, not as an artist. Johnson will be staying on as writer, while new artist Jorge Corona takes over the art in his stead. While losing Johnson’s art will be a blow to fans, having an artist of Corona’s caliber will certainly make up for the loss. With a major death on the way and an exciting changing of the creative guard, there’s never been a better time to be a Transformers fan.
