Solo Leveling is the Best Anime Adaptation of a Manhwa, & its Newest Episode Proves it

Solo Leveling has dominated the anime world since the first episode for many reasons. Although the large fanbase the manhwa has built over the years is a big reason, the sheer dedication and resources that went into the anime blew everyone’s mind, and the production really set it apart from every other series currently airing.

The Solo Leveling webtoon is an iconic manhwa that is as popular as many of the biggest manga out there, and as such has many iconic moments. Many anime fail to recreate these awesome moments, or sometimes even completely change them, most notably Tokyo Ghoul.

Although the anime has been fairly faithful since the beginning, it was in episode 6 that proved that Solo Leveling‘s one-to-one adaptation of the source material made it stand out among all manhwa anime.

The Solo Leveling anime exhibits more than ten differences between its adaptation and that of the manhwa, some with greater impact than others.

A-1 Pictures Went All Out For Solo Leveling

The series’ consistent quality exceeds fan expectations

Episode 6 of Solo Leveling was a spectacular display of why this is the biggest anime of the season, and possibly the whole year. It was action from start to finish, and the anime did not hold back from displaying the gore in the source material. Jinwoo’s battle against the boss spider was epic, but it was the fight – it was more of a bloodbath – that ensued between him and the hunter group that betrayed that sealed the deal. Heads went flying, a river of blood flowed, and five men were killed within seconds. This episode was very anticipated given how it marked a turning point for Jinwoo and the series as a whole.

However, simply adapting the source material isn’t enough. A-1 Pictures has added its own takes to the series that do not compromise nor deviate from the main plot, but instead, excite or clarify for the viewers. Furthermore, they intensify scenes with Hiroyuki Sawano’s angelic soundtracks, such as Jinwoo decimating his opponents while a bone-chilling theme is playing. From prolonged fight scenes to awesome sound effects, Solo Leveling has been done justice.

Manhwa adaptations are slowly becoming more popular, but haven’t been adapted the way they deserve to be. The best example is The God Of Highschool, a very popular manhwa that had terrible pacing for its anime. Hopefully, A-1 PIctures will set a great precedent for what future projects will take from. Solo Leveling is looking to be a trailblazer and a great example for manhwa anime, and the series is only halfway done.
