Solo Leveling Anime Release Date Announced With New Incredible Trailer

A new trailer has been revealed for the upcoming anime, Solo Leveling, which will air on Crunchyroll. The fantasy series has now received a timeframe for release. It will be part of the streaming service’s Winter season offerings, ready to ring in a new year full of exciting anime. Solo Leveling began as a web novel by Chugong, beginning release in 2018. It has since been turned into a webcomic and optioned for English release via licensing by manga and light novel publisher Yen Press. The South Korean series is being adapted into an anime by A-1 Pictures, a Japanese animation studio known for its work on Fairy Tail, Sword Art Online, and Lycoris Recoil, among others.

On Instagram, sololeveling_en and Crunchyroll shared the series’ newest trailer alongside a January 2024 release date. The video provides a glimpse of the show’s world, as well as a lengthy look at the protagonist, Sung Jin-Woo who has been renamed Mizushino Shun. As a low-rated hunter, known as the weakest around, he doesn’t have an easy time against the enemies he is facing. However, he is set to have what the trailer calls a “second awakening,” resulting in his life changing drastically. Should the anime stay true to the source material, he will be selected to be given a special ability. This results in him tackling dungeons alone, ergo being a “solo leveler” since he no longer works with a bigger party the way he used to.

Solo Leveling’s Anime Premieres January 2024

Hunters are known to have special battle abilities and Mizushino Shun may be getting one of his own following the disastrous dungeon encounter seen in the trailer. His determination and desire to continue pushing forward despite his weaknesses will likely make him an easy protagonist to cheer for. With elements of isekai anime series like Sword Art Online and other fantasy series featuring dungeons, Solo Leveling could be a stunning new series in Crunchyroll’s ever-expanding catalog should it live up to the original web novel’s beloved art and story.

The Solo Leveling anime adaptation is being directed by Shunsuke Nakashige. Series writer Noboru Kimura has served in assorted writing roles for numerous series, including Gundam Build Divers and Dragonar Academy. Music is composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, who is best known for his work on Attack on Titan, The Seven Deadly Sins, and Blue Exorcist. Nakashige previously directed Sword Art Online and was a key animator for Sailor Moon Crystal, as well as High School DxD.

Solo Leveling is already among 2024’s most anticipated anime releases. The web novel is incredibly popular in its own right and has a legion of fans hungry for this upcoming anime adaptation. With such top-tier talent working on it, Solo Leveling’s anime adaptation is sure to live up to the wildest dreams of the web novel’s eager fans. Crunchyroll may just have a new hit on its hand with Solo Leveling’s anime adaptation.

Solo Leveling will release on Crunchyroll in January 2024.
