‘Sleeping With Other People’ Trailer: Alison Brie & Jason Sudeikis Like to Crush Alot

Both Alison Brie and Jason Sudeikis are actors who are more than familiar with the comedy genre. For Brie, her turn as Annie Edison on Community has earned her a Critic’s Choice nomination, and Sudeikis has more than demonstrated his comedic talent with roles in films such as We’re The Millers and Horrible Bosses 2 – as well as his turn on TV shows like SNL, 30 Rock, and as the voice of both Holt Richter and Terry Kimple in The Cleveland Show.

The two comedic actors have now joined forces to star together in Sleeping With Other People, a new rom-com described by writer-director Leslye Hedland as “When Harry Met Sally for A-holes.” Sudeikis and Brie play two former college hook-ups who meet again twelve years later at a sex addicts meeting. Deciding they are both completely inept at staying faithful within the confines of a monogamous relationship, they decide to remain friends and consistently ignore the ever-increasing sexual attraction between them. Let’s see how long that lasts.

Sleeping With Other people has a supporting cast that includes Adam Scott, Jason Mantzoukas, Katherine Waterson, Adam Brody, Amanda Peet, Marc Blucas and Andrea Savage. The film was exec produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, and though it might sound like another typical rom-com in the same old familiar format, the trailer seems to suggest it might be one worth watching.

Early reviews are mixed, and it seems as though Sleeping With Other People might be a film that divides based on personal opinions. For a viewer who is all about the comedy – taste and decency be damned – they will find plenty of sharp innuendo and witty gags here, and underneath that, a story that actually has real heart. It is only natural that if you enjoy the humor you will end up rooting for the two leads to fall for one another, and the chemistry between Brie and Sudeikis is tangible, even from the trailer.

However, if you’re more into thought-provoking films or movies that set out to break a genre’s mould, and if endless sex-based jokes leave a bad taste in your mouth, then steer clear.

Sleeping With Other People arrives in theaters on August 21, 2015
