Skywalker Saga Makes A MAJOR Change To The LEGO Game Formula

It’s been four years since The Force Awakens got the LEGO video game treatment, while subsequent Star Wars episodes and spin-offs were skipped entirely. Now, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is bringing in those missed episodes as well as every other mainline movie into one jam-packed video game. After five video games already exploring the Star Wars universe, developer Traveller’s Tales needs ways to make this latest entry feel new. Thankfully, they’ve already thought of that.

Despite being delayed until 2021, The Skywalker Saga looks impressive. After a new trailer at Gamesom 2020 Opening Night, the series looks better than ever. LEGO Star Wars games have always done an excellent job of mixing wacky humor with fun puzzles and combat. The games also allow players to control the sprawling epic’s large cast of characters, even down to ones who may not even appear in the movies (like Constable Zuvio in The Force Awakens), and experience space battles in any number of iconic ships like the Millennium Falcon. All of this, thankfully, is still included in The Skywalker Saga.

Traveller’s Tales have given fans five games (not including ports and remasters) over the last fifteen years, including one game already branded The Complete Saga. This was before Disney bought Lucasfilm, however, and created a new canon with new movies, comics, books, and TV shows. It makes perfect sense that a new LEGO Star Wars game would need to be created to envelop the entire nine-movie series now. But that also means retreading planets, plot, and gameplay that fans have gotten used to over the last decade and a half. In order to keep it all from being a bit stale, Traveller’s Tales has made one major change to its latest LEGO Star Wars game.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Gives Players Options

Skywalker Saga Makes A MAJOR Change To The LEGO Game Formula

Because LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is so ambitious, it could be very time consuming to get through all nine reimagined episodes. Players who want to experience the newest thrills from Rise of Skywalker may not want to play through the other eight episodes first. Traveller’s Tales has thought of this, of course, which is why the latest LEGO Star Wars game is getting a major shake-up.

In The Skywalker Saga, instead of being forced to play through each episode chronologically, players can select an episode to start with. Additionally, people can play through and beat the episodes in any order they wish. This is great news for fans, because it means if they want, they can play through entirely new LEGO content of The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker before going back to the movies that have already been featured in LEGO Star Wars games. It also means they can prioritize which characters and vehicles from each episode they want to unlock first.

For Star Wars fans looking to return to the LEGO universe, The Skywalker Saga is set to release in the spring of 2021. It’s coming to PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One — as well as next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X.
