Skyrim Twitch Extension Gives Viewers Control of The Story

An inventive Twitch extension specifically built for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, allows viewers to take direct control of a streamer’s playthrough. Bethesda Game Studios’ fantasy role-playing game was released back in 2011, and its massive success and popularity have continued to persist until today. Many different versions of Skyrim have been released and released over the last decade, allowing gamers to experience the epic adventure on various platforms.

Upon release, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim received massive praise for its vast open world, combat, and character progression system. The fifth entry in Bethesda’s epic fantasy saga brings players to the snowy fields and ancient tombs of Skyrim and casts them as the prophetic warrior the Dragonborn. With a huge variety of quests to complete and an entire world of creatures to fight, Skyrim has left an unmistakable mark on the gaming industry and has been constantly rereleased to continued acclaim. The recently-released Skyrim – Anniversary Edition brought the game to new-generation systems in November.

As revealed by Bethesda Game Studios (via Twitter), a new interactive Twitch tool allows viewers to change the course of an ordinary Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim playthrough. The Twitch extension, created by development studio Ghost Command, lets viewers vote to spawn a random creature into the game out of a choice of four. In the video posted by Bethesda, a hapless streamer leaves Whiterun on a peaceful quest to collect ten butterfly wings. Unfortunately, the streamer’s fans vote to spawn in a powerful werebear enemy, which quickly ruins the poor streamer’s day.

Launching in 2011, Twitch has risen to become a hugely popular live-streaming service with a huge community of streamers and viewers. The service lets gamers stream their own gameplay, and experimental users are always coming up with new ways for viewers to interact with the game. Back in 2014, an experiment titled Twitch Plays Pokémon allowed a Twitch chat to control an automated bot by voting on specific actions. Millions of fans came out to participate in the social experiment, and much chaos ensued from the huge variety of different commands being issued at once. Ghost Command’s Skyrim extension seems to put a similar concept into effect, giving power to viewers rather than just the streamer.

Ghost Command’s Twitch extension adds yet another level of unpredictability to an ordinary playthrough of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The beloved title is a popular game to stream due to its great depth and complex character creation, and now viewers will have even more power in the game. With werebears or giant spiders randomly accosting unprepared streamers, the Twitch extension should make for some very entertaining playthroughs.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available on PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
