Skyrim Glitch Has Windhelm Guard Swimming Through The Air

A new glitch in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sees a Windhelm Guard defying the laws of gravity by swimming through the air. A clip of this glitch has been shared to the Skyrim subreddit, where it has provided much amusement for fans of Bethesda’s popular RPG title.

Glitches and bugs can vary in severity across any title from something as minor as NPCs running through walls, to more frustrating game-breaking issues such as the one where one Skyrim player was turned into a horse. Despite sounding like an amusing idea for a mod or spinoff game, glitches like these can cause issues. For instance, the player who was turned into a horse was no longer able to perform the abilities of the Dragonborn. Glitches can also make the game world unplayable as certain quests may be inaccessible or impossible to complete, frustrating players. Of course, the glitches that aren’t game-breaking have provided much amusement for players over the years, who try to recreate and capture them to share with their friends and fellow players.

The latest of these glitches to be spotted was shared on the Skyrim subreddit by jessamars. The glitch sees one of Skyrim‘s Windhelm Guards defying the laws of gravity whilst bidding farewell to the Dragonborn, and expressing gratitude for all the Dragonborn has done as they swim away through the air. The clip has proven to be popular as fans have claimed it enhanced the moment, making the fond farewell even more dramatic and beautiful.

I’ll always be grateful for everything you’ve done… from skyrim

Not only can glitches impact gameplay, but they can drastically change the tone of a scene. Sometimes they can add comedy to a serious moment, such as the floating Windhelm Guard’s farewell, but other times it can completely ruin what the developers were intending to convey. One instance of this was when a Skyrim player found the Dragonborn’s housecarl Lydia in a precarious position that made the normally serious and religious follower appear to be somewhat possessed, floating in the air with a somewhat suggestive animation.

Be it through the game’s immense story and quests, creative fan-made mods that add things like McDonalds-esque fast-food chains, or bizarre glitches, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has brought endless hours of entertainment for players in the decade since the popular Bethesda title’s release. Although it’s never the developer’s intention to release a game with noticeable issues, these bizarre glitches clearly seem to be something Bethesda fans have enjoyed finding, and through discovering new ones, have likely increased the longevity and replay value of the 2011 title.
