Kody Brown has earned some fans since he decided to show off his polygamous family on Sister Wives, but he seems to face criticism more frequently than praise. As much as Kody claims that all decisions are made by the group and the wives can out-vote him, it’s clear on the show that Kody is the head of the family and any wife who disagrees with him is thrown under the bus. Redditors are now calling Kody out for the mess his family has found themselves in because of his decisions.
It was Kody’s decision to move the family from Las Vegas to Flagstaff, Arizona. When he breached the topic with the wives, none of them were happy. Many of Kody’s wives still have school-aged children and moving is particularly hard on them because it means they have to change schools and make new friends. Unfortunately, Kody isn’t as interested in the well-being of his children as he is in getting what makes him happy. That usually ends up hurting Meri, Janelle, Christine, Robyn, and their kids.
One fan on Reddit started a thread entitled, “Kody f***ed the whole family,” discussing how Kody’s seemingly unplanned move to Flagstaff has hurt the entire Brown clan. “The man has 4…wives and not a single person could convince him to slow down and maybe have a plan or concrete living situations?” Kody bought undeveloped land and then moved his family before they even made plans to develop the land, before their Vegas homes sold, and before they had reliable places to live in Flagstaff until their permanent homes were built.
Viewers find Kody’s lack of practicality or forethought infuriating. The poorly planned move has created foreseeable issues with all of Kody’s wives. Another Redditor said Kody “downplayed all the issues the wives brought up during the whole process and then one second after the deal is done he’s like wait…and starts listing EVERY issue the wives tried to bring up!!!” A third fan added their own opinion, writing, “From what I’ve come to understand in my own fun study of polygamy, the husband announces what he wants and expects the wives to make it happen. They are his worker bees. He doesn’t have to put in effort or worry about logistics, he just needs to show up to receive the praise.”
Even if Kody does get homes built on the Coyote Pass property, that doesn’t mean the family can settle down long-term. As one fan said, “Meri pointed out that the cul de sac was the longest they had stayed anywhere…Kody gets bored/restless and is generally unhappy and is one of those people who is always certain that the next thing is going to make them happy.” So far, Kody’s decision-making has kept his children and wives feeling uprooted, unhappy, and in a bad financial situation. But, as Kody has shown little growth over 15 seasons of Sister Wives, it seems doubtful the family will ever be headed towards peace and prosperity.
