Sing 2 Character Posters Reveal First Look At Bono’s Lion Rock Star

Universal and Illumination have revealed character posters for Sing 2, including the first look at Bono’s lion rock star Clay Calloway. A follow-up to the 2016 hit Sing, the film includes the returns of Matthew McConaughey, Taron Egerton, Reese Witherspoon, Tori Kelly, Scarlett Johansson, Nick Kroll, Seth MacFarlane and Garth Jennings. After spending four years in development and production, the sequel is set to hit theaters on December 22.

Sing 2 will see the ever-optimistic koala Buster Moon seeking to get his all-star cast of performers to debut a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City. However, due to having no connections, he and the group must sneak their way into the world-famous Crystal Entertainment offices to get the attention of ruthless mogul wolf Jimmy Crystal, voiced by franchise newcomer Bobby Cannavale. In order to win his support and save his own life from the gangster, Buster must mount a new show with reclusive rock star Clay Calloway starring. He’ll set off on a journey to find Clay and deal with both Crystal and his spoiled daughter, Porsche, voiced by Halsey.

Six months after offering a little tease of the film, Universal and Illumination have debuted character posters for Sing 2 to announce the first trailer’s arrival tomorrow. In addition to the returns of stars from the original film, the first look at Bono’s lion rock star Clay has been revealed. Check out the character posters below:

Though rising to stardom with the Despicable Me franchise, Illumination truly shined with the release of the first Sing. Combining some gorgeous animation with a heartwarming story and spirited soundtrack, it drew audiences in and was deserving of its Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature Film, even if it wasn’t a match for Disney’s conceptually-similar Zootopia. While some may be holding out more for a sequel to the latter film, the former certainly held a lot of charm to be carried over into a follow-up.

The extended development time spent on Sing 2 should hopefully translate to writer/director Jennings and Illumination delivering another rousing story for audiences. The notion that Bono will be trying his hand at a proper acting role for the first time since 2007’s Across the Universe may give some pause, but putting him in the role of a rock star does deliver some promise for an exciting performance from the U2 frontman. Hopefully, audiences will get a chance to see Calloway in action when the first trailer arrives tomorrow.
