Simon Cowell Says OG American Idol Judges Reunion Possible on Kelly Clarkson’s Show

Simon Cowell teased that a reunion with all of the original American Idol judges could be possible on Kelly Clarkson’s new talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show. Clarkson’s new show could be the perfect place to get Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Cowell in the same spot again, and it’d give fans major déjà vu to see the OG winner in the same room as the OG American Idol judges.

The original all-American singing competition that thrust singers into superstardom – including Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Phillip Phillips, and Carie Underwood – included pop star Abdul, music producer Jackson, and British music executive Cowell on its panel of judges. The judges had a special connection with each other and with audiences – something that Cowell said is impossible to recreate. American Idol has changed up the judges over the years after the original trio went their separate ways after their iconic first 8 seasons. Right now, the show has found what it considers the best trio since the OG judges, which consists of Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie, and Luke Bryan.

Kelly Clarkson, the original American Idol winner, just got her very own daytime talk show – The Kelly Clarkson Show – where she will have special guests on every weekday talk about a variety of subjects in front of a live studio audience. Cowell recently spoke with Us about the idea of going on her talk show with all of the original American Idol judges. He said, “We just talked about that earlier. With Paula [Abdul] and Randy [Jackson]. Yeah, the three of us,” While Cowell walked down the red carpet for America’s Got Talent, the iconic judge spoke about the last time he had seen Clarkson, saying, “The last time I saw Kelly, she came when I got that star last year. Yeah …  that meant a lot to me, you know, because, you know, she and I started the show.” Cowell even mentioned that his 5-year-old son, Eric, and Clarkson’s kids of the same age – 5-year-old River and 3-year-old Remington – “haven’t met yet,” but said he will bring his son “down to the show when I do it” to let them meet.

Cowell went on to praise Clarkson for all of her accomplishments as a Grammy-winning artist, saying, “Just seeing how she’s done as an artist. … Now how she’s progressed on TV – and not everyone’s like this, by the way.” He spoke about her personal character as well, saying only nice things about the season 1 American Idol singer: “I mean, she is the most loyal, nice person. I mean, genuinely. You know, who she is on camera is who she is off-camera.” He praised the way she’s progressed in her career, saying, “What’s great about Kelly is she’s always made her own decisions. She doesn’t need to be told what to do. She knows exactly what she’s doing. She’s a great person.”

The X-Factor judge had only nice things to say about the budding talk-show host. He made it clear he will at least be on The Kelly Clarkson Show, but as for the rest of the judges, it hasn’t yet been confirmed. The idea of having Cowell, Randy, Paula, and Clarkson all in one spot again is certainly enough to get fans excited, and since a lot has changed over the 17 years since Clarkson was crowned the winner, there is a lot for the four to catch up on.

The Kelly Clarkson Show premieres on September 9 on NBC.
