Silk Is Taking on Her Own Spider-Verse in New Series

Silk Is Taking on Her Own Spider-Verse in New Series

Cindy Moon’s Silk is the latest Spider-Hero to get her own multiversal Marvel adventure in an all-new series. Silk is currently still wrapped up in larger Spider-Verse shenanigans, but the newly announced limited series seems to play with the idea of the Silk-Verse. It appears to be part of a larger trend among Marvel’s Spider-Folk, as both Miles Morales and Ghost Spider have each had a miniseries that featured them tangling with their variant selves in the last year. Regardless of the inspiration behind the story arc, die-hard fans of Cindy Moon will surely be glad to see Silk leading her own series once again.

The scoop on the new series launched in an exclusive report from ComicBook.com, showcasing Dave Johnson’s cover for the premiere issue.

Silk Is Headed for the Multiverse

The art sees alternate versions of Silk featured, from an astronaut and pirate Cindy Moon to a barbarian warrior and an investigative reporter. It’s unclear whether these are different versions of Silk or whether the original will be traveling the multiverse, but either way it seems the Spider-Hero will be encountering Marvel’s many different realities. From writer Emily Kim and artist Ig Guara, Marvel promises:

There’s something rotten in Los Angeles, and ace detective Cindy Moon is on the case! Wait…that can’t be right. In this mind-bending new series, Cindy will face old foes and never-before-seen dangers that will take her to the breaking point!

Silk is no stranger to epic multiversal missions. Cindy played a central role in the initial Spider-Verse event not long after debuting at Marvel Comics, and she’s one of the last couple of Spider-Heroes from Earth-616 still able to fight in the ongoing End of the Spider-Verse storyline. While Spider-Verse stories tend to fill out their casts with multiversal Peters Parker, many fans already know that Earth-616 Silk is not the only one of her kind. A few years ago, the Spider-Women crossover reimagined the Cindy Moon of Earth-65 as a spider-obsessed mad scientist-turned-head of the covert organization S.I.L.K. on Ghost Spider’s home Earth. Even more recently, Web Weaver’s introduction story featured the Silk of his Earth and is heavily implied to be an alternate-dimensional counterpart to Cindy Moon’s brother, Albert. While all these show that the multiverse is not new to Silk, neither is series writer Emily Kim, who penned Cindy’s last solo book in 2022. Fans have until May to speculate what aspects of the established Silk-Verse and what parts of Kim’s previous work with Cindy Moon will contribute to Silk’s newest series.

Silks Fans Are Getting Exactly What They Wanted

Silk is a fan-favorite character who has yet to break into the mainstream, and yet she has many fans who have constantly made Marvel aware they want her adventures to continue. Not only will the new Silk address this demand, but in focusing on multiple realities, it’s an adventure which explores Cindy Moon from as many angles as possible.

Above all else, writer Emily Kim’s return to the character for Silk’s new limited series is exciting. Having the opportunity to continue with Cindy Moon in multiple series is not a chance most creators get in this era of mainstream comics. Due to her time spent hidden away for so many years, Cindy often grapples with feeling out of place in her own world. Kim has already played with this idea through the lens of Silk struggling to feel relevant and robbed of her youth. By tossing her out into all the possible paths her life could take, it seems that Silk‘s new series may result in the Spider-Hero discerning who she wants to be going forward in Marvel mythos.

Silk #1 will be available from Marvel Comics in May 2023.
