Silent Hill 2 Remake Rumored, Could Include New Endings

Reportedly, Bloober Team, the crew behind The Medium, has signed a deal with Konami to develop a Silent Hill 2 remake that could come packed with new endings. Rumors concerning a Silent Hill revival have continued to crop up over the past couple of years, thanks in no small part to Konami’s refusal to so much as hint at what could be next for the beloved survival horror franchise. Some of the claims indicate the publisher intends to publish a full-blown remake, while others allege that a remaster or remake of an existing entry will eventually see the light of day.

Industry insider AestheticGamer sparked the latest rumors after sharing images derived from a supposedly new Silent Hill game. The pictures’ quick removal due to copyright claims seems to give some credence to their legitimacy. However, nothing concrete links the images to the Konami series as of yet. If there is some truth to the rumor, another recent report implies Konami has multiple Silent Hill-branded projects in the works.

Over the weekend, another industry insider – NateTheHate2 – shared details about a Silent Hill 2 remake allegedly in development at Bloober Team. The remade sequel will feature redesigned puzzles and new endings, Nate claimed, before noting that it could also launch as a timed exclusive on PlayStation consoles. Interestingly, the insider also echoed the long-running rumor that Konami plans to publish several Silent Hill titles in the coming years, including the remake, a brand-new installment, and “side stories.” VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb corroborated Nate’s original post, saying he, too, has heard similar details from “multiple different sources.”

According to Grubb, what he has heard about the future of Silent Hill aligns with Konami’s E3 2021 plans prior to the publisher pulling out weeks ahead of the summer event. With E3 2022 no longer on the docket, the chance of Konami making a big splash next month seems unlikely. Summer Game Fest counts as one possible venue for an exciting announcement or two, yet the company’s strained history with host Geoff Keighley may not allow for such a partnership.

As usual, Silent Hill faithful should take all of the above with a pinch of salt, though the want to take everything at face value is understandable. Silent Hill has remained dormant for approximately one decade, with its most recent outing coming in the form of 2012’s ill-received Book of Memories on the PS Vita. That Bloober Team sits at the center of many Silent Hill 2 rumors and reports gives a semblance of hope things could turn around for the series in the not-so-distant future.
