Sian’s Fate In A Murder At The End Of The World Episode 5 Explained (& What Caused It)

Since a killer is at loose in A Murder at the End of the World‘s central retreat, Sian’s death cannot just be accidental. In A Murder at the End of the World‘s episode 4, Sian and Darby sneak out of the retreat to trace Rohan’s footsteps and figure out what he was up to before he died. However, they are forced to rush back to the retreat when a superstorm starts catching up with them. Although Darby sustains a few injuries after their car crashes during the storm, Sian survives the accident with no visible injuries and drags Darby back to retreat on a sled stretcher.

Unfortunately for Sian, things take a grim turn when the helmet of her suction suit does not come off. With only a few seconds of oxygen left in her helmet, Andy performs an urgent tracheotomy to save her. Sian survives in episode 4 but succumbs to an infection from the tracheotomy in A Murder at the End of the World‘s episode 5. Her sudden death makes it hard not to wonder if it has something to do with the central murder mystery.

Was Sian Murdered By The Central Killer In A Murder In A Murder At The End Of The World?

In A Murder at the End of the World episode 5, Andy suspects that Sian’s helmet might have been hacked by the same person who hacked Rohan’s pacemaker. While this could be a possibility, it makes little sense because no story details up till the show’s episode 5 suggest that the central killer would want to kill Sian. Moments before his death, Rohan called Darby and told her that he and Bill had planned something at the retreat. He also added that Bill uncovered a secret, which might have led to his death. In addition, he told Darby that he had a fair idea about what Bill had discovered before he was murdered.

Rohan’s confession suggests that he and Bill died because they were planning something against Andy, and someone on Andy’s side had figured out their plan before they could execute it. Or, the secret they had discovered landed them in some serious trouble with someone at the retreat, which ultimately got them killed. Since Sian likely did not even know Bill and Rohan before arriving at the retreat in A Murder at the End of the World‘s initial episodes, it seems unlikely that someone might have tried to kill her. However, Sian possibly ended up wearing the helmet that Darby was supposed to wear. The killer was targeting Darby, but Sian became the victim.

Why Sian’s Death Could Have Been Accidental

Lu Mei confesses to Andy and Darby in A Murder at the End of the World‘s episode 5 that she hacked into Andy’s firewall to contact her team and ask them to get her out of the retreat. It is possible that hacking into Andy’s firewall led to a glitch in all the technologies connected to Andy’s centralized network, which might have caused the helmet to malfunction. This would also explain why Sian and Darby’s car suddenly crashed when they were returning to the retreat in A Murder at the End of the World‘s episode 4.
