Shrek: 10 Hilariously Raunchy Jokes That Fans Only Noticed Now

There are jokes involving almost all of the main characters in the film including Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, and Lord Farquaad. Here are some of the funniest and raunchy jokes from the first Shrek movie that fans are noticing now.

Wipe Your Face

Shrek: 10 Hilariously Raunchy Jokes That Fans Only Noticed Now

When Shrek and Donkey first go to the kingdom of Duloc they are greeted by a singing animatronic of miniature people that states the rules of the kingdom. They sing, “please keep off the grass, shine your shoes, wipe your face,” as they all bend over and pause before saying face. Parents will chuckle at this creative setup as kids probably won’t realize the rhyme should have ended with a curse word.

Compensating For Something

Shrek comments that Lord Farquaad is compensating for something when they see how large and tall the towers of his kingdom are. While kids might be able to figure out when the film creatively curses if they know the curse words, this one is less likely. In a now obvious and overused joke about the size of a certain anatomical part of Lord Farquaad, this is probably something kids missed in their first viewing.

Lord Farquaad Seeing Fiona

Lord Farquaad continues to ask the mirror to show him footage of Princess Fiona, over and over again. The mirror is uncomfortable with the situation, but he continues to show Farquaad the footage. Farquaad sits up in his bed, bites his lip, and pulls the sheets of his bed over him a bit more.

There’s some movement under the sheets that suggests Farquaad feels some lust toward Fiona. It’s a quick scene that most would miss during their first few viewings and kids would miss altogether.

What A Load Of

The film begins with Shrek giving a voiceover of Princess Fiona’s life through a fairytale storybook. He turns the page as he says she’s waiting for her true love’s kiss, rips it out, and says what a load of and is cut off by a flushing noise as an outhouse is shown.

The film is known for creatively placing curse words throughout the film that kids probably won’t pick up on but parents will probably appreciate it.

She’s Not Easy

When the magic mirror is introducing the possible princesses that Lord Farquaad can marry he delivers a raunchy joke about Snow White. The mirror says that she lives with seven guys, but she’s not easy. Children will probably know about Snow White’s story and the seven dwarves she lives with, but this joke goes over their heads.

I Have To Save My Ass

Shrek and Donkey

Shrek finally gets to say a curse word when he saves Fiona from her tower. They are trying to escape and Fiona asks where he’s going when he starts to move toward the dragon instead of running away with her.

Shrek turns back to her and says he has to save his ass, referring to Donkey, not the curse word, but it is a clever way to safely sneak a curse word into a children’s movie.

He Likes To Get Paid

During Monsieur Hood’s song, he describes how much he likes saucy little maidens, his merry men surround him and whisper that he’s saying he likes to get, Hood interrupts and says he likes to get paid. Talking about women in the line leading up to this would suggest the men were about to say how much Hood likes getting laid, not paid. Again, Shrek creatively subverts the raunchy line, but most parents will recognize it and chuckle.

Shrek And Fiona’s Alone Time

Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey after their wedding

Donkey goes off on his own to look for a flower to help Shrek after getting an arrow in his butt. He returns to see Fiona on top of Shrek after he struggles against her trying to help him.

He drops the flower and says if they wanted to be alone they could have just asked him instead of leading him on a wild goose chase for a flower that won’t help him. Parents understood the joke that Donkey thought they were kissing or about to have sex, but kids probably didn’t fully understand this joke.

Lord Farquaad’s Name

This joke takes a little manipulation of Lord Farquaad’s name. If his name were to be pronounced without the r, it would be f*ckwad. Again, the writers of Shrek have a lot of fun sneaking curse words into the children’s film and this joke might be overlooked. Kids certainly wouldn’t have caught this on their first few watches, and it could have taken adults a little while to catch it, but once the audience realizes this the villain’s name makes more sense.

Donkey’s Dream

When Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona are traveling in the forest and Fiona makes them set up camp for the night. She wakes up early and finds some breakfast for all of them, Shrek wakes up to the smell of her cooking eggs over the fire.

Donkey is still sleeping and seems to be having a sexual dream as he says things like “I like it like that” until Shrek wakes him up. Kids watching probably didn’t pick up on it, but most adults recognize the joke.
