She-Hulk Image Shows How Much Tatiana Maslany Looks Like Marvel Comics Hero

A new image helps showcase how closely She-Hulk actress, Tatiana Maslany, resembles the titular comic book character. After the release of a She-Hulk-centric streaming series was announced amongst a plethora of others by Kevin Feige at D23 Expo 2019, it wasn’t long before the Orphan Black star was cast in the role, being announced just over a year later, in September 2020. The series is being headed by Rick and Morty writer, Jessica Gao, and Kat Coiro is attached to direct several episodes. The series is expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2022.

Set in the continuity of the MCU, the superhero-comedy series itself is set to revolve around the titular character, Jennifer Walters (Maslany), a New York lawyer who inherits the Hulk powers of her cousin, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), after undergoing a blood transfusion. However, whilst Banner would lose his intelligence and will upon turning into his hulking alter ego, Jennifer instead retains her personality and intelligence but gains a similar amount of super-strength. Alongside Maslany and Ruffalo, the series has also cast Tim Roth, reprising his role as Abomination from The Incredible Hulk, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Amelia, Jameela Jamil as Titania, and Ginger Gonzaga in a currently undisclosed role.

Reddit user, henning-a, recently posted an image to the site that greatly emphasizes just how closely Maslany resembles the comic book heroine. The image featured two photos that were edited together to create a side-by-side comparison of the two, featuring both an image of Maslany on social media and an image of John Byrne’s She-Hulk adaptation. This comparison highlighted the extraordinarily similar facial structure and individual facial features that the two share, as well as the similar type of hairstyle that the two both sport. Check out the image below:

Tatiana Maslany is the spitting image of John Byrne’s She-Hulk from Marvel

While Maslany is the first official actress to take on the role of She-Hulk in an upcoming television series, she is not the first actress that has been considered or offered the role. In the early 1990s, a live-action She-Hulk film was in development under late screenwriter, Larry Cohen, with actress Brigitte Nielsen being cast in the starring role. During the film’s development, promotional images of the actress in costume were even released, however, as years went on, the film never fully materialized and was eventually scrapped altogether. Even with this past failure, the character is now able to find the spotlight alongside her cousin while also being portrayed by an actress so faithful to the character’s appearance in the comics.

Having the actress of a comic book character so closely resemble the source material can be considered as an extremely positive aspect for fans, who wish to only see their favorite characters be given justice on the big and small screens. Therefore, this casting choice has now only been proven further to so far be an extremely good choice on Marvel Studios’ part as Maslany has clearly already got the visual aspect of the character going for her. Fans will now have to wait and see if the star’s performance as the character holds up when She-Hulk releases on Disney+ in 2022.
