Shazam: Fury Of The Gods – 10 Deities Who Could Appear In The DC Sequel

Shazam: Fury Of The Gods – 10 Deities Who Could Appear In The DC Sequel

The Shazam sequel, Fury of the Gods, is set to pit the young superhero against the deities of the DC Universe. While a variety has already been confirmed to make an appearance, there’s an opportunity here for the DCEU to build up some of its wider lore and thus introduce further gods from mythology to proceedings.

Some may have appeared elsewhere, while others would act as fun nods to the comic books, or perhaps as an indication of where this big screen universe might be heading next. Regardless, Billy Batson is probably going to be out of his depth if he was to have to face some of these characters.

Ares

Shazam: Fury Of The Gods – 10 Deities Who Could Appear In The DC Sequel

If Ares was to show up in Shazam: Fury of the Gods, it wouldn’t be the first time that the warring deity appeared in the DCEU. Fans will know that he was the antagonist of the original Wonder Woman movie and seemingly met his defeat and demise by its conclusion.

Gods have a funny way of coming back though and it’s very plausible that Ares isn’t gone for good. The god of war is from Greek mythology and with the plot surrounding the daughters of Atlas, a titan in his own right, it’s feasible that a cameo from another major Olympian is on the cards.

Zeus

DC Comics Zeus Wonder Woman

Comic book fans have been accustomed to seeing Zeus in the pages of the Marvel Universe recently, especially after his big screen debut alongside Thor. But the god of gods has also had an important part to play in Wonder Woman’s narrative and has appeared as both friend and foe.

Some of Shazam’s abilities hail directly from Zeus and it would be intriguing to see the duo come head to head. The mighty lightning wielder is unpredictable but all-powerful, meaning he could be a significant source of conflict to add some further excitement to Fury of the Gods. If anyone knows fury it’s Zeus.

Black Adam

Black Adam walks from flames

Black Adam has his outing in the DCEU coming up and it’s highly anticipated by audiences. The character is so heavily linked to Billy Batson that it seems unusual that there has yet to be a battle between Black Adam and Shazam. That might all change in the sequel though.

Essentially a god in his own right, it would feel like a missed opportunity to have a Shazam sequel predate Black Adam’s solo movie and not have a small appearance from the leader of Kahndaq. The power of Black Adam is absolutely immense and would serve as Billy’s biggest challenge to date.

Mr. Mxyzptlk

Mxyzptlk

Mr. Mxyzptlk has been adapted to screen previously, but never in the DCEU and certainly not to the accurate extent he deserves. The 5th Dimensional Imp is a god to humanity and can do pretty much anything, warping reality to his will. As a Superman villain, it feels like he’d fit Shazam well.

The initial Shazam outing didn’t shy away from some of the bizarre villains from the DC comic books and the sequel likely won’t either. As a fake ally and a plotting foe, Mxy would be a worthy addition to the sequel and add a layer of fun to proceedings, in a franchise that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Morpheus

Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) and Squatterbloat (Martyn Ford) in The Sandman

Morpheus, also known as The Sandman, has just debuted on Netflix to critical acclaim. While Neil Gaiman’s work has finally been adapted, there are other places in the DC Universe where the character could show up, and Shazam might just be the irreverent project that fits the bill the most. Unpredictable but good at heart, Morpheus is the exact opposite of Billy Batson.

The dark and brooding figure would perhaps bounce off of Billy Batson in a rather unique way. Greek mythology has played into Morpheus’ journey, so he’d have a passing interest in the events of Shazam 2 and would want to put his powers to good use.

Circe

Circe taunting Wonder Woman in DC comics

Circe has been entrenched in the DC Universe for some time as an adversary for Wonder Woman. The magic wielder also finds herself originating from Greek mythology, but she’s fit into the lore of the comics so well that she’s even been featured in the brand’s video game outings.

The character would surely have a part to play in Fury of the Gods, especially if the daughters of Atlas are looking for a way to boost their abilities. With Shazam as a character featuring a magical background, Circe’s appearance would be a natural fit for the feature.

Trigon

Trigo as seen in DC Comics

Trigon is the devil incarnate, or at least a demonic variation of the kind of being that can be found in the depths of hell. The satanic character has caused a great deal of trouble for Raven in the past, the member of the Teen Titans who draws her powers from the underworld.

Thus far, Shazam hasn’t had to deal with any kind of afterlife and certainly not hell. But with the gods potentially taking him to areas he may have never visited before in the DCEU, Trigon is the most likely contender to attempt to take over the mind of the young hero.

Darkseid

Darkseid

Darkseid has already been a significant threat to the Justice League, but then that was an alternative version of the team’s adventures. Right now, the godly figure has barely made an impact on the big screen in continuity, but perhaps in Shazam that could all change.

Much like Thanos’ continued cameos, maybe Darkseid can begin to make his return, through some of his most evil acts. Billy Batson would be so out of his depth against this monstrous force and would fail to defeat him, perhaps pitching a larger conflict for the future to team with Black Adam.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman wielding her sword in 2017's Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman is firmly established in the DC Universe and is fairly considered to be an Amazonian god. Humanity views her as so much more than a superhero, and she is likely an inspiration to Billy Batson, who has been known to collect vigilante memorabilia.

Much like Superman did in the initial Shazam, considering Billy is facing Greek mythological threats, it would be appropriate to see Diana Prince make a quick cameo as a way of supporting the young hero. It’s unlikely that she’d be involved in any of the action though.

The Merciless

Batman Merciless God of War Metal

The Multiverse is becoming more of a factor in the DCEU and that could open the door for cameos from various realities. Of course, Batman appears to be a major part of that moving forward, and there is one godly iteration of the character that might fit into Shazam extremely well.

In one reality, Batman takes on the role that Ares once held. As The Merciless, Batman becomes the god of war and thus is far more violent and brutal. It’s the kind of threat that plays into Shazam’s love of other superheroes and takes advantage of the manipulative tactics of potential villains, bringing in this warped vigilante to fight their battles.
