Shake Chatterjee Reveals Why He Turned Down Netflix’s Perfect Match

Several reality stars from multiple Netflix series will unite under one villa when Perfect Match premieres on February 14th, but Shake Chatterjee from Love Is Blind season 2 won’t be one of them after he turned down an offer to join. Shake, who proposed to Deepti Vempati on Love Is Blind last year, quickly became one of the biggest reality television villains of 2022 after their short-lived engagement turned sour. Despite Shake’s controversial reception among Netflix subscribers, the streaming service offered him the opportunity to join their upcoming series Perfect Match, in which a batch of singles from shows including Love Is Blind, The Circle, and Too Hot To Handle will attempt to establish new connections and find love.

Interestingly, while fan favorite Netflix stars like The Circle winner Joey Sasso, Chloe Veitch, and Francesca Farago agreed to temporarily put their lives on hold, Shake revealed in an Instagram Story that he turned down a spot on Perfect Match after he realized he would have to cross paths with Nick Lachey.

“Happy for my friends on Perfect Match but there was no way I was gonna participate [with] that clown Nick Lachey,” Shake stated to his followers with an accompanied clown face emoji. “Backed out as soon as I found out he was involved.” To prove that he was scouted for Perfect Match after Love Is Blind season 2 was filmed in mid-2021, Shake shared an email from Netflix’s production team in October 2021, in which they asked him to complete a background check. “I know that you are finalizing your contract…upon execution of your contract, please complete the background check before the end of the weekend,” the sender requested.

Nick, who also hosts Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On alongside wife Vanessa Lachey, has been on Shake’s bad side since they filmed Love Is Blind season 2 last year. At the dramatic reunion, Shake accused Nick of being biased, declared that he was exclusively attracted to Vanessa, and claimed that Love Is Blind‘s production team were manipulative. Since then, Shake has frequently bashed Nick and other Love Is Blind participants on social media, and has made it clear as day that he is no fan of the former 98 Degrees member.

Although Shake turned down the chance to redeem his image on Perfect Match despite his problems with Netflix, the former Love Is Blind contestant successfully moved on from Deepti and found love off-camera. Shortly after Love Is Blind season 2 concluded in March 2022, Shake made his relationship with girlfriend Emily Wilson Instagram official and moved to Miami, Florida. With their one-year anniversary around the corner, Shake and Emily appear stronger than ever and launched a podcast, Love Is Blurry, last April. Shake also still works as a veterinarian.

While Shake has no plans to interact with Nick again, plenty of other Love Is Blind alum are set to grace Netflix once more when Perfect Match premieres next month. In addition to Shake’s former co-star Shayne Jansen, Love Is Blind season 1 stars Lauren “LC” Chamblin, Diamond Jack, and Damian Powers will also attempt to form connections with other reality television veterans, as well as Bartise Bowden from Love Is Blind season 3. Although Love Is Blind remains one of Netflix’s biggest dating series, it’ll be interesting to see what drama undoubtedly awaits on Perfect Match.
