Netflix’s reality dating series Sexy Beasts features some season 2 changes that make the show more entertaining. Sexy Beasts season 2 has already improved its timing, as it was released when no other reality dating shows were premiering on Netflix. Although season 2 wasn’t as successful as some comparable series, it did fare a lot better than season 1.
Viewers are drawn to Sexy Beasts over other reality dating shows because it supposedly puts personality first and doesn’t allow physical appearance to be a factor. Fans enjoy seeing the contestants go on dates wearing heavy makeup and masks. The disguises are conversation pieces that are fun to look at. Although the concept is interesting, the show’s producers received a lot of criticism for their execution of the interesting social experiment. Clearly, higher-ups listened to the feedback, as season 2 included some key changes.
Season 1 received a lot of criticism over the fact that only the contestants’ faces were hidden, leaving their body shapes visible A lot of the contestants wore rather revealing and tight clothing, so their dates were still able to judge them based on their physical attributes. Season 2 rectified this issue by having the contestants wear clothing that more or less suited the themes of their masks and makeup. There were a lot more shapeless clothes than in Sexy Beasts season 1, and a lot less commentary about their dates’ bodies from the show’s cast members.
Another issue with season 1 was that all of the contestants were stereotypically attractive when unveiled. Many of the contestants were models. and they all seemed to be attracted to each other when their faces were revealed. While season 2 still features attractive people, the show did broaden its concept of attractiveness. Also, season 2 had a much more diverse variety of body types than season 1. Furthermore, there were some contestants who said that their dates were “not their type” when they saw them without the disguises. While the issue of the show casting only attractive people, such as Sexy Beasts star Emma the Demon, hasn’t been entirely rectified, the show has definitely taken a big step forward.
Sexy Beasts‘ season 2 has shown progress and an effort to improve. The show still has a long way to go, but the producers have proven that they are listening to the viewers. Within a few more seasons, it’s possible that Sexy Beasts will become the deep and profound reality dating show it has the potential to be. For now, fans can enjoy the improvements that have already been made, and rest assured that Sexy Beasts is going in the right direction.
