Sex Education Season 4 Story Details Tease New Rival For Otis

The official Sex Education season 4 synopsis reveals that Otis (Asa Butterfield) will meet a brand new rival. Netflix’s coming-of-age show premiered in 2019 and centered on Moordale Secondary School’s students and faculty members. Although the show has grown to become an ensemble over the years, Sex Education‘s core characters include Otis, Maeve (Emma Mackey), and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa).

Despite the several cast exits ahead of season 4, Sex Education‘s primary characters remain intact., but when it returns for its latest outing, those departures won’t be the only significant changes. After the unexpected and abrupt closure of Moordale Secondary School at the end of season 3, its students are left scrambling to look for other academic arrangements. Luckily for Maeve, she doesn’t have to deal with this issue, as she’s on her international study grant in the U.S. – where she meets a new mentor in Thomas Molloy, played by series newbie Dan Levy. Otis and Eric, on the other hand, find themselves in a new school.

Netflix has started the marketing campaign for the series, with THR sharing the official story details for Sex Education season 4. According to the synopsis, Otis and Eric are sticking with each other as they both transfer to Cavendish Sixth Form College. They are surprised at how liberal it is compared to Moordale, but after the initial shock has subsided, they need to find a way to settle in. This impacts Otis in particular, as he learns that he isn’t the only therapist at his new school. Read the full Sex Education season 4 synopsis below:

Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier — their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, while Eric is praying they won’t be losers again. But Cavendish is a culture shock for all the Moordale students — they thought they were progressive but this new college is another level. There’s daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being … kind?! Viv is totally thrown by the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach, while Jackson is still struggling to get over Cal. Aimee tries something new by taking an Art A Level and Adam grapples with whether mainstream education is for him. Over in the U.S., Maeve is living her dream at prestigious Wallace University, being taught by cult author Thomas Molloy. Otis is pining after her, while adjusting to not being an only child at home, or the only therapist on campus.

Sex Education Season 4 Story Details Tease New Rival For Otis

It has been a while since Otis really functioned as a sex therapist in Sex Education. After his underground business with Maeve got busted in season 1, they never really tried to bring it back, although he still occasionally dished advice to those who needed it. The official Sex Education season 4 synopsis didn’t reveal anything about the identity of his new rival, and the report doesn’t say who is playing them. Regardless, this is a great way for the show to return to its roots. Whether Otis will try to re-establish his old practice is unknown, but his new competitor could motivate him to do better, and even think outside the box with his proposed solutions.

Putting him in an entirely new setting could help distract viewers from the fact that Sex Education is once again delaying his Otis’ romance with Maeve. Now, the pair are physically away from each other, making it more difficult for them to keep in touch and potentially move forward with their love story. Hopefully, however, the Netflix series doesn’t further milk their will-they-won’t-they narrative because, at this point, it could prove difficult to keep fans invested.
