Sex Education: 5 Characters Fans Want To See More Of In Season 3 (& 5 We Want To See Less Of)

Sex Education: 5 Characters Fans Want To See More Of In Season 3 (& 5 We Want To See Less Of)

The show Sex Education will be returning in January for its third season, and fans are eagerly awaiting the Netflix series coming back and continuing its story. The show has proven to be a big hit so far, covering a range of topics with a vibrant cast of characters and lots of different storylines being well worked together.

The series has done a great job of building the cast in the first two seasons, but there are certainly some characters that are more popular than others, as is the case with any show. But which characters should season three be highlighting further, and which need to go on the back burner?

Want More: Anwar

Sex Education: 5 Characters Fans Want To See More Of In Season 3 (& 5 We Want To See Less Of)

It’s time for Sex Education to give Anwar a little bit more than being the school bully who likes to just shout mean one-liners at people for the fun of it. Towards the end of season two, he was showcased to not be as confident sexually as he might put out to his peers, and that’s a start.

Hopefully, season three will dive into Anwar’s personality a little bit more, exploring his character, his relationship, and his family. There’s a lot of potential with him, it just needs to be showcased a little more, rather than just having him in the background.

Want Less: Steve Morley

Steve and Aimee

Outside of the fact that he’s got muscles and he enjoys maths, there really isn’t much to Steve’s character, which is why he needs to be shown less in season three. While he didn’t have a main role before, he is in a relationship with Aimee, who is one of the most important characters in the show.

If Steve is going to be featured a lot in season three, then more personality and story needs to be injected into the character. Because Aimee has such a lot of energy, this relationship just hasn’t worked so far, so hopefully, it will be addressed in the next season.

Want More: Remi Millburn

Remi Sex Education

Sex Education brought Otis’ father, Remi into the story for season two and he was a very fun addition to the show. He added a new angle to Otis’ storyline, all while showcasing his own problems, admitting that he had a sex addiction, which is an interesting topic that the show would do a great job at covering.

He adds a totally new dynamic to the show from potentially playing a third wheel in Jean’s storyline with Jakob to bringing a male role to Otis’ life. Having him finding out about Otis’ sex advice would be an intriguing twist to add, and now things have gone wrong in his life, it will be interesting to see what decisions he makes next.

Want Less: Rahim

A close-up of Rahim smiling in Sex Education

Rahim was brought in for season two and he ended up in a relationship with Eric, however, with Eric and Adam ending up together right at the end, it’s unclear how much of a role the Frenchman will have in the third season. It obviously won’t be smooth sailing for Eric, but will Rahim be needed as much this time around?

While the character was very confident and self-aware, unlike many of his peers, Rahim simply didn’t have that much of a personality. On a show that is packed full of big characters, Rahim felt out of place at times, which is why seeing less of him would be wise.

Want More: Sean Wiley

Sean Wiley

Sean Wiley wasn’t part of the second season, after once again leaving Maeve at the end of season one. However, it doesn’t feel like his story has been completed. Considering how things ended in season two, with Maeve putting her stepsister into care due to her mother being a drug user again, there’s a perfect story for his return.

His character is a lot of fun, with his relationship with Maeve being quite a complex one. Because he has a big history with some of the teachers from the school, there’s something that can be worked on, meanwhile, people want to know more about his secretive past and what exactly he is up to. Plus, seeing him interact with Isaac would be interesting, as he is quite a good judge of character.

Want Less: Ola Nyman

Ola

Ola has been one of the main characters so far in Sex Education, and a big reason for that is because of her romantic storyline with Otis. However, that is firmly a thing of the past, and because of that, it is easy to see her being used a little less frequently in the third season of the show.

Ola tends to be overwhelmingly positive, which is a fun element to have on the show. However, since Sex Education has given her a real chunk of time, it would be nice to see new characters be explored in the third season.

Want More: Sofia/Roz Marchetti

Sofia and Roz

While the primary focus of the show is on the younger characters, the adults do bring a lot of great moments to the series as well. Different types of stories are able to be told with these characters, simply due to their age and maturity, which brings a whole new dynamic to this series.

Sofia and Roz have been shown in glimpses, but have mainly been around to advance Jackson’s story in regards to no longer enjoying swimming. However, it’s clear that they’re having major marriage problems, and that could be an interesting storyline for the show to jump into.

Want Less: Dex Thompson

Dex Thompson

Dex Thompson was one of the new additions for season two, as a member of the school quiz team that Vivienne initially was romantically interested in. She taught Jackson how to act in order for him to teach her how to flirt with him, but ultimately she realized he was a fairly boring person who was only interested in his Rubix cube.

While Dex did come out with a few good one-liners throughout the season, he was quite a one-dimensional character, which ultimately was his downfall. While he may pop up again if there’s more work to be done with the quiz in season three, he is someone who isn’t needed now Viv is no longer interested in him.

Want More: Ruby Matthews

Close-up of Ruby Matthews looking up in Sex Education

For most of Sex Education, Ruby Matthews has been used as a supporting character as one of ‘The Untouchables,’ who is seen as the elite in the school. She’s often been hardnosed and has bullied other characters, but after having sex with Otis towards the end of season two, she revealed a softer side as she discussed her family issues.

Revealing to Otis that her father has been diagnosed with MS really showed her character in a totally new light. As her father battles the disease, it would be good to push that storyline and give Ruby more screentime. The show has been brilliant at covering tough topics, and highlighting what life with multiple sclerosis is like could be a very powerful storyline for season three.

Want Less: Olivia Hanan

Sex Education Olivia Hanan

While Olivia Hanan isn’t a bad character by any stretch, out of the three Untouchables, she has been highlighted the most to this point. Her storylines have been fun so far, and there’s no doubt she will still be a key character, but taking a slight backseat to allow Ruby and Anwar a little more time would be good to see.

This would actually make them even more relatable as a trio when they’re together, which is something that the show can focus on moving forwards. Whether it’s Anwar’s journey with his boyfriend, or Ruby’s family storyline, having Olivia simply be a kind, supporting friend won’t be a bad thing.
