Seven Of Nine Hopes For Star Trek: Picard Spinoff Explained By Michelle Hurd

Star Trek: Picard star Michelle Hurd has some ideas about how the story of Commander Raffi Musiker and Jeri Ryan’s Captain Seven of Nine should continue. Raffi and Seven both joined the cast of Picard in season 1, and the two began exploring a romantic relationship at the end of the season. In Picard season 2, Raffi and Seven traveled back in time with Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) to Los Angeles in 2024. While working to find a way back home, Raffi and Seven discussed their relationship, which had grown somewhat strained.

In Star Trek: Picard season 3, Raffi and Seven work in different areas of Starfleet, with Raffi in Starfleet Intelligence and Seven stationed on the USS Titan. By the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3, Seven has been promoted to Captain of the newly rechristened USS Enterprise-G with Raffi as her First Officer. Michelle Hurd sat down for an interview with IGN, where she discussed her hopes for Raffi and Seven’s future. Read her quotes below:

I really want to see how Seven, Raffi, and Jack Crusher navigate the universe, but I also think that it’s important to continue to tell the journey of people who are or who have been addicts. Because once we have it, we’re there forever. What’s a better way to put that pressure on her than to be Number One and know that she has a responsibility not only to her captain and somebody who she cares very deeply for, but to Starfleet as well?

I think we could also continue to push and explore what it’s like having Seven of Nine as the first queer Star Trek captain without it being the focus. It should just be life and see how we navigate in it. Just like me talking about being dyslexic. I’d love for us to be able to reveal more of the things that people who look like they are presenting as ‘neurotypical normal’ are actually struggling with and going through. I think it would be phenomenal because you’ll get an audience that is finally seeing themselves represented.

Seven & Raffi’s Star Trek Story Depends On Picard’s Star Trek Spinoff

Despite fan excitement and the perfect setup, Star Trek: Legacy remains unconfirmed.

Although the potential Star Trek: Picard spin-off, Star Trek: Legacy, has long been rumored, it remains to be seen whether Raffi and Seven’s story will continue. Picard season 3 ended without wrapping up the story of Raffi and Seven’s relationship, leaving the status of their romance unknown. Not only will Raffi and Seven be spending more time together now that they are both on the bridge of the Enterprise-G, but Seven also outranks Raffi, which could lead to further complications. With Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), the son of Jean-Luc Picard and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), as a “Special Counselor to the Captain,” things are likely to be far from boring on the newest Enterprise.

If Star Trek: Legacy does get the green light, Raffi and Seven’s relationship may not be the only romance explored on the show. In Picard season 3, Jack Crusher and Ensign Sidney La Forge (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut), daughter of Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), developed a friendship filled with flirtatious banter. While their relationship never developed further, there were definitely hints it could turn into something more. Hopefully, we will get to see more of Jack and Sidney, as well as Seven and Raffi, as their journeys in Star Trek: Picard felt like they were just getting started.
