Selma Blair Is Open To Acting Return If The Right Thing Comes Along

Selma Blair has confirmed that she would return to acting if a good opportunity were to arise. The actress became a household name for her roles in films like 2004’s Hellboy, The Sweetest Thing, and Cruel Intentions. She has publicly battled Multiple Sclerosis since the announcement of her diagnosis in 2018.

Beginning her acting career in the 1990s, Blair quickly rose to prominence across a broad range of genres. Appearing in numerous films and TV series, one of her biggest breakout performances came with the release of 1999’s Cruel Intentions alongside Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. From there, she found a franchise as Liz Sherman in Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy series and made appearances in projects such as Legally Blonde, The Sweetest Thing, Mom and Dad, and The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story. In 2018 she revealed her MS diagnosis and she is currently gearing up for the release of her documentary Introducing, Selma Blair, which chronicles her life with the disease.

In recent years, Blair’s career slowed down somewhat as she refocused her efforts on recovery following her MS diagnosis, similar to her The Sweetest Thing co-star Christina Applegate. However, in a recent interview with Variety to promote her new documentary, she confirmed that she would return to acting if a good enough opportunity were to present itself to her. Blair explained:

Yes, if there’s the right thing — I’m not going to try and insinuate myself in somewhere. I’m not someone that’s been nagged by ambition.

There’s ample reason to be excited about what the future may hold for Blair. Introducing, Selma Blair follows her MS diagnosis, but the actress recently received some good news and confirmed that her MS is in remission. With her condition potentially improving in years to come, she may dive in again and continue delivering standout performances in films and TV series.

With all of that said, it’s worth reading into what Selma Blair has to say about returning to acting. The notion of “insulating” herself could potentially indicate a desire to not dive into a franchise, which is something she’s only done once before with the Hellboy series. However, that could also indicate a desire to steer clear of long-form television, which she also did in series like Anger Management, the Heathers reboot, and Netflix’s Another Life. No matter what her next projects look like, audiences can check out Selma Blair’s latest nonfiction effort when Introducing, Selma Blair debuts on Discovery+ on October 15.
