Selling Sunset Creator Said Justin Hartley Was Asked Many Times to Be On Season 3

The creator and producer of Selling Sunset, Adam DiVello revealed the real reason why Justin Hartley was never on the hit reality show. Check out what the mastermind behind the luxe docusoap series had to say about trying to get the popular actor on the show below.

While the first season debuted last year, the Netflix show didn’t blow up until recently with many fans getting hooked on co-star Chrishell Stause’s rather public and shocking split to This is Us actor, Justin Hartley. But as fans spent their days and nights binging this highly-addicting series, they probably realized that they never got to see Hartley. Even when Stause and Hartley were still together, the popular actor was only ever named dropped or seen in images. There’s been a lot of speculation on why Selling Sunset’s leading lady, Chrishell Stause was never seen on camera with her former husband. However, they were only fan-theories at best. Earlier this week, DiVello shared the real reason why they could never get Hartley on camera and it looks like what it came down to isn’t all that juicy. It really was just work related – ugh, boring!

In a recent phone interview with Variety, Adam DiVello was to reveal some of Selling Sunset’s secrets. While the TV producer couldn’t comment on the more juicy plot lines, such as Christine Quinn’s villain-like nature, he was finally able to address why Chrishell Stause’s former husband never made a cameo on the hit reality TV series. Unfortunately, it isn’t as alluring as we thought. There had been a few rumors that Hartley didn’t want to participate because he hated the show, but in reality, it turns out it was merely business that kept him away from Selling Sunset’s cameras. DiVello said, “I think it was just contractual. We certainly asked many, many times. I think it was just his contract with NBC.”

As for whether or not HGTV’s Flip or Flop’s Tarek El Moussa will  make an appearance in any upcoming seasons, he’s been romantically involved with cast member Heather Rae Young since last year and just recently got engaged, it looks like he will be in the new season.

DiVello was rather candid on the question, but sources have confirmed, as well as Young herself, that the home renovation star will finally be in an episode. Turns out, El Moussa was able to work around his contract. Too bad Hartley never did.
