Secret Invasion Trailer Teases A Major Villain For MCU Phase 6

The official trailer for Secret Invasion offers an intriguing look at the series’ villain, one that could return in the MCU’s Phase 6. Secret Invasion is based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name, in which a rogue group of Skrulls invades Earth by impersonating powerful superheroes and political leaders. The MCU Disney+ series is similar, with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury seeking the aid of his allies, including Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, in order to stop a group of Skrulls led by Gravik from invading Earth.

It is through the character of Gravik that a potential Phase 6 appearance can be found. With Secret Invasion dealing heavily with Skrulls, over two decades after their appearance in Captain Marvel, the series will likely detail a lot about how they have changed. From their change in political status after Captain Marvel’s cryptic ending to how their powers may have developed, Marvel’s Secret Invasion’s trailer could be setting up a crucial villain for one specific Phase 6 movie.

How The Secret Invasion Trailer Teases Super-Skrull’s Introduction

That villain is none other than the Super-Skrull, a common Marvel Comics villain of The Fantastic Four. The Super-Skrull – also named KI’rt – was a regular Skrull warrior who was imbued with replica powers of The Fantastic Four. This included every power the team possessed, which established Super-Skrull as one of the Marvel superteam’s biggest enemies. This is hinted at subtly in the Secret Invasion trailer through the Skrull character of Gravik.

Gravik is the main Skrull villain of Secret Invasion, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir. The final shot of Gravik in the official Secret Invasion trailer hints at him being the MCU’s adaptation of Super-Skrull when he stretches his arm out in front of him at something offscreen. The effect used is extremely similar to previous incarnations of Reed Richards, which could hint at Super-Skrull coming to the MCU already with The Fantastic Four’s powers.

Could Super-Skrull Be The MCU Fantastic Four Movie’s Villain?

If Gravik does turn out to be the MCU’s version of Super-Skrull, his story could be left over for a Phase 6 re-introduction through the MCU’s Fantastic Four movie. If Gravik is kept alive, he could very easily be used as Fantastic Four’s villain as a way of tying the team and the film into the MCU’s overarching story. It remains unclear where Talos’ Skrulls have been since the end of Captain Marvel, with that film only establishing that Carol will help them find a home.

This home is obviously somewhere in space, with The Fantastic Four’s powers being tied to space as well. It could well be revealed that Gravik’s powers are tied to the Fantastic Four like in the comics, with the team’s MCU absence being justified by them being in deep space. This could lead to Gravik being beaten by Nick Fury in Secret Invasion and being sent back out into Skrull space to face justice and setting up whatever the Fantastic Four story may be. Regardless, the Secret Invasion trailer’s portrayal of Gravik’s powers is interesting and could mean big things for the MCU’s Phase 6.
