Search Party Gets Season 5 Renewal on HBO Max

HBO Max has officially renewed Search Party for season 5. Search Party initially premiered on TBS in 2016 where seasons 1 and 2 of the show aired. It was then picked up by HBO Max for season 3, which released in June 2020, and season 4 in January 2021. The show’s quirky, lovable characters and suspenseful storylines are what draw viewers in and keep them coming back for more.

Even though Search Party season 4 only hit HBO Max last month, Variety confirms the show has received the green light for season 5. Additionally, HBO Max granted Search Party‘s showrunners, Charles Rogers and Sarah-Violet Bliss, a two-year overall deal. Rogers and Bliss are “thrilled” about the show’s renewal and joked titles of their upcoming projects with HBO Max are Monkeys Love Manhattan and The Pineapple Predicament. HBO Max’s head of original content, Sarah Aubrey, is optimistic for what’s to come in Search Party season 5:

Charles and Sarah-Violet are the masters of genre-blending and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next! It’s been a joy working with them — they are whip smart, wildly funny and have such a distinctive worldview — we couldn’t be happier that they are continuing to call HBO Max their home.

Search Party has changed significantly throughout the course of its four-season run. Initially, Dory (Alia Shawkat) was intent on finding a friend from college who wound up going missing. By season 2, she was on the run from the law after she had murdered the missing friend’s captor. The season 3 move to HBO Max features Dory in jail for said murder, while season 4 comes full circle when Dory’s kidnapped, and her friends have to save her. What could be next for season 5 is a complete mystery, but it will surely be exciting. Viewers are likely in for the kind of thrilling action they’ve come to expect from Search Party.
