SDCC FutureTechLive! Features Deadpool, Ghostbusters & Overwatch AR Experiences

San Diego Comic-Con attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the augmented reality worlds of Deadpool, Ghostbusters and Overwatch with this year’s FutureTechLive! Not only that, but participants can also potentially get some exclusive swag via giveaways during the event.

SDCC is one of the entertainment industry’s most significant events of the year. Every year, movie and television studios descend upon San Diego to promote their productions. SDCC features panels with some of the biggest stars in movies and television and highlights everything that is currently trendy in pop culture. This year’s event, which runs from July 19-22, is no different and will include some of the most anticipated movie trailers of the year.

In addition to that, FutureTechLive! will showcase technology by offering SDCC attendees a chance to interact with augmented and virtual reality experiences. Those experiences will include Star Wars, Ready Player One, Ghostbusters, Deadpool and Overwatch. The VR mech game, Archangel: Hellfire, will finally see its debut, but other games, including eSports, will also have a presence at the event. There will even be demonstrations of artificial intelligence and robotics, as well as information about cryptocurrencies. FutureTechLive! will also stage a hackathon for attendees, which will have participants creating a mobile device app. For those interested in swag, expect a lot of giveaways, including exclusive merchandise from Funko and limited edition pins.

FutureTechLive! co-founder and producer Scott Bobrow said:

“We wanted to create the ultimate tech playground for people coming to the granddaddy of consumer events. In one place, we spotlight the coolest immersive experiences and earth-shattering technologies that will change the way we live and interact with others.”

Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the company behind E3, will also participate with FutureTechLive! by hosting a Diversity in Gaming Tech Lounge. Attendees can also expect art exhibits. Star Wars and Game of Thrones artist Rob Prior will attend and paint live. There is a science track sponsored by the Fleet Science Center, which will have scientists present to answer questions.

FutureTechLive! happens at the Grand Ballroom of the Omni San Diego Hotel, across from the Convention Center. There is a preview day on July 18. Regular days and hours are July 19-21 from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and July 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.

With promises of a little something for everyone, FutureTechLive! at SDCC sounds like a nerd’s dream come true. Not only will geeks get their fill of some of their favorite pop culture franchises, but they can also immerse themselves in those franchises like never before. This is also the first time ever for an engagement hackathon at SDCC, which should attract some of the brightest coders and minds at the convention.
