Scream 7’s Rumored Actor Return Is Bad News For Sidney Prescott

Scream 7’s Rumored Actor Return Is Bad News For Sidney Prescott

Scream 7 is bringing Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott back, and thanks to her, there’s another character from Wes Craven’s Scream movies rumored to return, but that would be bad news for Sidney. After a couple of controversies and shake-ups, as were Melissa Barrera’s firing, Jenna Ortega’s exit, and director Christopher Landon leaving, Scream 7 is back on track, with franchise creator Kevin Williamson on board as director and the franchise’s original Final Girl, Neve Campbell, back to lead this new story. Scream 7 is intended to close the franchise, and as such, it could bring more legacy characters back.

Scream’s reboot trilogy began in 2022 with the franchise’s fifth movie, simply titled Scream, which brought back Sidney, Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette), and introduced a new generation of characters. Now that Scream 7 no longer has the reboot’s Final Girls, Sam (Barrera) and Tara (Ortega), Sidney is coming back to close the franchise after her Scream 6 absence. Campbell’s return has made way for speculation on which other legacy characters could return in Scream 7, and a recent rumor points to a Scream 3 character linked to Sidney, but that would be awful news for her.

Neve Campbell is officially coming back for Scream 7, and though this can open many doors for the franchise, its survival might not be guaranteed.

Scream 7 Is Rumored To Be Patrick Dempsey’s Mark Kincaid’s Return

The most recent rumor around Scream 7 says that two more legacy characters are returning to close the reboot trilogy (via CBR): Courteney Cox, who would officially become the only actor to appear in all movies in the saga, and Patrick Dempsey, who only appeared in Scream 3. Dempsey played Detective Mark Kincaid, a homicide detective assigned to the Los Angeles Ghostface murders following the deaths of Cotton Weary and Christine Hamilton at the hands of a new Ghostface. At one point, Mark was believed to be a suspect, but he turned out to be a valuable ally to Sidney, Gale, and Dewey.

At the end of Scream 3, Mark was seen at Sidney’s house, preparing to watch a movie with her, Gale, and Dewey, implying that Sidney and Mark had started a romantic relationship. It’s understood that Mark and Sidney broke up at some point between Scream 3 and Scream 4, but reconciled in the almost 10 years between the events of Scream 4 and Scream 2022. As revealed in Scream 2022, Sidney and Mark are now married and have three children, and they went into hiding during the events of Scream 6.

Patrick Dempsey’s Mark Kincaid Might Not Survive Scream 7

There will have to be something very shocking in Scream 7 to bring Sidney out of hiding to confront yet another Ghostface killer, and even worse if Mark also gets involved. Scream 2022 and Scream 6 made sure to emphasize that Sidney’s family is now her #1 priority, hence why she and Mark moved to a safe place with their children in Scream 6. With this in mind, if Sidney is coming out of hiding in Scream 7 along with Mark, it probably means that the next Ghostface killer is targeting their family.

Of course, this can have truly tragic results for Sidney and Mark, and looking at the franchise’s track record, Mark might not survive his second Scream movie. Out of the main three (Sidney, Gale, and Dewey), only Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) has survived her second appearance in the Scream franchise, but those closest to Sidney, as was Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy), who was killed in Scream 2, weren’t so lucky.

Mark, then, doesn’t have a big chance of surviving Scream 7, which would add yet another tragedy to Sidney, who deserves a happy ending after everything she has gone through for over two decades.
