Gale Weathers goes through quite the journey in Scream (2022), seeing her ex-husband Dewey Riley again, helping Sidney Prescott fight Ghostface, and then tragically losing Dewey. Courteney Cox has signed onto Scream 6 and told Entertainment Tonight, “I don’t know about contracts and where things are, but I’ll tell you in the script — it’s a really good one.” Fans are thrilled to see Gale’s story arc continue and to watch her bring her intelligence and sharp tongue to another film.
In all five Scream movies, Gale is the perfect reporter character, eager for a good story but also realizing that sometimes, the wisest thing to do is forget about work and be helpful and compassionate. Gale’s quotes are always memorable and clever.
Gale Sees Right Through Debbie Salt In Scream 2

Billy’s mom Mrs. Loomis pretends to be a reporter named Debbie Salt for much of Scream 2, and Gale can’t stand her, which is interesting since that’s how many people used to feel about Gale.
When Debbie says “Please Miss Weathers, it would just be such an honor if I could get a quote from you for my story,” Gale lets Debbie know that she isn’t going to play her game and help her become more famous. Gale can see right through people who want to use her since she used to do that herself.
Gale Takes Responsibility In Scream (2022)

Sidney and Gale are both fan favorite Scream characters and share the same strong personality and dry wit. Sidney tells Gale that Billy is to blame for the horrible murders and that Gale shouldn’t feel guilty. But it’s smart that Gale realizes the part that she did play in the beginning of this story.
When Gale wrote her books Wrongly Accused: The Maureen Prescott Murder and The Woodsboro Murders, she wanted attention and didn’t care who she hurt in the process. While Sidney has forgiven Gale since they have become allies, it’s meaningful that Gale realizes she chased fame too much.
Gale Stands Up To Jennifer Jolie In Scream 3

Scream 3 introduced fans to the excellent character Jennifer Jolie, who plays Gale in a Stab movie and wants to study and copy her every move. Watching these two characters interact is one of the most hilarious parts of the film.
When Jennifer says that she’s “being Gale Weathers,” Gale replies that she’s the real person, a perfectly funny yet perceptive response. Gale knows that even if she doesn’t like the way that Jennifer portrays her in the movie, it’s just fiction and doesn’t change who she is.
Gale Can Tell Something Is Seriously Wrong In Scream (1996)

Although Dewey tells Gale that she’s wrong to call Ghostface a serial killer at this point in Scream, Gale is clever and realizes that something terrible is happening and it’s only going to get worse.
While Dewey is understandably trying to stop people from panicking, Gale doesn’t want to mince words or shy away from the truth. Gale is willing to say what no one else is prepared to right now. While Gale might be gloating at the chance to break a big story, she’s still right.
Gale Says Yes When Dewey Proposes In Scream 3

Gale and Dewey’s relationship is a popular part of the Scream franchise and understandably so. The characters are shy and nervous with each other in their early scenes, proving their attraction and strong feelings, and it’s sweet watching them get engaged at the end of Scream 3.
Gale tells Dewey that he’s full of courage for wanting to share his life with her as she knows that she can be tricky and difficult sometimes. The fact that Gale knows her flaws is interesting and also smart, as she does try to grow and become a better person.

It’s sad learning about Gale and Dewey’s divorce and even worse realizing that Gale and Dewey still have feelings for each other. Gale lets Dewey know that she understands that while she felt called to move to New York City, she could tell that Dewey wouldn’t be happy or at peace.
Gale is also smart enough to realize that while she wanted to host a morning show and make a career change, she lost Dewey in the process. It’s clear that Gale knows that she would have lost something if she had made a different choice.
Gale And Dewey Figure Out Jill Is Ghostface In Scream 4
“Why, she was stabbed in the shoulder? How does she know… I was too…?”
While some Ghostface killers are scarier than others, it’s terrifying that Jill is so close to Sidney since they’re cousins. In Scream 4, Gale and Dewey have a wild and unforgettable moment in the hospital when they figure out that Jill is Ghostface.
When Dewey shares with Gale that Jill wanted to co-write a book with Gale since they both had shoulder injuries, the couple realizes that Jill would never have known that information. Gale is used to putting puzzle pieces together because of her career and this is one of her smartest moments.
Gale Realizes It’s Time To Move On With Her Career In Scream 3

Gale transforms a lot throughout the horror franchise, starting off as a fame-hungry reporter who doesn’t seem to have friends or even like talking to other people if she isn’t doing an on-camera interview. By Scream 3, Gale wants to make a big change in her life and career, realizing the truth about chasing stories all the time.
Gale’s decision to start writing about something other than crime is compelling and also seems like a good idea, given the terrible experiences that she has had over the past few movies.
Gale Can Tell It’s Happening Again In Scream 2
“Is there a problem on campus?”
Gale is one of the most intelligent Scream 2 characters as she never stops thinking for a moment. When it’s obvious that another murder has taken place, Gale approaches Dewey and asks about what’s happening.
Even though Dewey doesn’t want to tell Gale the truth, Gale pushes ahead and finds out what she needs to know. While Gale is still looking for a news story at this point in the franchise, and she hasn’t made her character transformation yet, she can still figure out what’s going on.
Gale Is Ready To Defeat Jill In Scream 4
“OK, but can I just have one final word? Clear.”
Gale and Sidney are an awesome team near the end of Scream 4 when Gale says “clear” and Sidney puts a defibrillator to Jill’s head. This moment is so meaningful as the characters have been on this journey together and they’re able to communicate without words.
Gale is in control and tough in every Scream movie, and especially when dealing with Jill. Gale can read Jill well and realizes that she used to share Jill’s desire to be known and loved.
