Scrapped Obi-Wan Kenobi Plot Would Finally Bring Closure To Revenge Of The Sith’s Order 66

Scrapped Obi-Wan Kenobi Plot Would Finally Bring Closure To Revenge Of The Sith’s Order 66

Obi-Wan experienced a lot of personal growth in Obi-Wan Kenobi, but this scrapped plot idea would have allowed him to move on from the effects of Order 66. Obi-Wan Kenobi saw the Jedi Master come to terms with the fact that his former Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, was still alive and terrorizing the galaxy as Darth Vader. It was an extremely emotional story, as Obi-Wan had to learn to live with the guilt of failing his student and brother. While Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 currently seems unlikely, it has a perfect way to give him even more emotional development.

Obi-Wan was able to process the tragedy of Anakin’s fall in season 1, but the show never really addressed the lingering effects of Order 66. He was one of the few Jedi who survived Order 66, and he likely felt extreme survivor’s guilt. The veteran clone trooper cameo also showed that he was still afraid of his former soldiers, so Obi-Wan still had a lot of healing to do after the clones’ betrayal. The show already has the perfect way to bring up Order 66 again, thanks to a scrapped story line about a beloved character.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 1 Almost Featured A Commander Cody Arc

One of the show’s writers, Stuart Beattie, explained that there was a cut plot for Obi-Wan Kenobi that centered around Commander Cody. The scrapped plot line would have shown an older Cody as Obi-Wan’s friend on Tatooine. He would have been riddled with guilt over executing Order 66 and trying to win back Obi-Wan’s trust by helping him survive and hide from the Empire. Cody’s story would have been incredibly interesting to see, but it wouldn’t have fit well into Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1, so it was for the best that it was cut.

One of the main critiques of Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 was that it focused too much on side plots, and the central conflict between Obi-Wan and Vader often took a back seat. Spending additional time on Cody’s relationship with him would have only made that problem worse by introducing another secondary plot to follow, drawing more time away from Vader. Season 2 wouldn’t have that same problem, though, as Palpatine suggested Vader should stop hunting Obi-Wan, so it could be the perfect opportunity to revisit Cody’s redemption arc.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Could Still Use Cody’s Abandoned Story

In season 1, Obi-Wan helped the Hidden Path, an underground network of people who smuggled Jedi and Force-sensitive people away from the Empire’s reach. He also clashed with the Inquisitorius, a group of fallen Jedi who hunted down survivors of Order 66, which created quite a bit of commotion. If Cody was looking for Obi-Wan in an effort to redeem himself, he likely would have heard about the events of the first season and been able to find him because of them. After finding Obi-Wan, Cody could still fulfill the role of Obi-Wan’s friend and helper he was originally supposed to play.

Cody’s involvement in Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 would even add interesting new elements to the original story that was planned for him. In the original plan, Cody had been living with and helping Obi-Wan for years prior to the show’s beginning. Introducing him in season 2 would create the opportunity to show Obi-Wan’s initial reaction to seeing Cody again. Their reunion would bring up complex emotions in both men, and the scene would be perfect to depict on screen. Those emotions would be difficult to deal with at first, but they could provide a chance for them both to heal.

Obi-Wan Could Finally Come To Terms With Order 66

Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi and Order 66

Obi-Wan was a Jedi Master and member of the Council, so he likely blamed himself for not being able to predict and prevent Order 66. Obi-Wan still harbored fear, regret, and grief over Order 66 in Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1, and that held him back from becoming the Jedi he was in the original Star Wars. Cody’s return would force Obi-Wan to confront his feelings and memories surrounding Order 66, and could give him a chance to grow past it. Another detail in Cody’s story would also let Obi-Wan realize that he was blaming the wrong people for the destruction of the Jedi Order.

Order 66 came at an extremely hectic time in the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan had just defeated General Grievous, and the attack took him completely by surprise. Immediately following it, he was forced to go after and fight Anakin, which left him with no time to investigate why it happened. Cody could show Obi-Wan that Order 66 wasn’t the clones’ fault, which would help him move on. Evidence of the behavioral chips and Cody’s remorse would not only absolve him of guilt, it would also prove to Obi-Wan that Palpatine’s plan was too convoluted for him to ever have predicted it.

Cody Doesn’t Have To Be The Main Story Of Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2

Star Wars' Commander Cody and Obi-Wan Kenobi

Cody’s return could work as part of a larger narrative, as having another person Obi-Wan once considered a friend who tried to kill him would surely bring back traumatic memories, and he would likely seek Qui-Gon Jinn’s guidance. That would open up a new spiritual route for the show to take, as it could show Obi-Wan learning from Qui-Gon again. Cody could be part of a larger story about the lessons he gave Obi-Wan, and one of those lessons could be learning how to forgive his former friend. Qui-Gon would also have other lessons to teach, such as how to become a Force ghost.

If Obi Wan Kenobi season 2 focuses on Qui-Gon teaching Obi-Wan the secret to becoming a Force ghost, Cody’s redemption would complement that story perfectly. Forgiving Cody could be enough proof of Obi-Wan’s spiritual enlightenment that Qui-Gon would be ready to divulge the secret to becoming one with the Force. If that wasn’t enough, and Qui-Gon required Obi-Wan to take the Force Priestess trials like he and Yoda both had to, Cody could also fit into that story by helping him get to the Wellspring of Life and overcome the obstacles on the way there.

More of Cody’s redemption story will likely be shown in The Bad Batch season 3, but it won’t be enough. Given that show’s setting, there is very little chance he would be able to interact with Obi-Wan. Cody’s redemption should give him a chance to reconcile with Obi-Wan, as they were dear friends in the Clone Wars, and their relationship deserves a chance to be healed. Including Cody in Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 would give their relationship another shot, and it could go a long way in healing both men from the horrors of Order 66.
