‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’ Trailer [Updated With Images!]

Oh, hosanna, Universal is finally giving us a look at Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. As badly as I want to be surprised, shocked, stunned and lots of other words beginning with the letter “s” when the movie hits theaters, it’s been highly distressing witnessing the almost non-existent attempt to market a film with as much potential as this one.

It was only last week that the official Scott Pilgrim poster debuted at ShoWest – now the teaser trailer has arrived!

I’m hesitant to use the words “stylistic smorgasbord,” but it kind of is. The film boasts classic arcade sounds to compliment its on-screen Batmanesque comic book effects, candy-colored hair, and sharp flashes of the wit that made Scott Pilgrim such an epically enjoyable read.

The trailer is also proof of what some lucky viewers already knew from director Edgar Wright’s personal sneak peaks: that this movie really will be “an epic of epic epicness.”

In the trailer, we’re given a glimpse of the seven evil exes Scott must fight- sorry, defeat – in order to date Ramona. There is some wonderfully imaginative visual splender going on in this trailer – in particular the clue-ometer, which makes a brief appearance (see the final image below). And, to be frank, that’s all I need.

I don’t need one frame more to whet my whistle – though I’m sure now that the marketing ball is rolling, we’ll be given plenty more. The fans weighed in with mixed reviews on that teaser poster, but I can’t imagine this trailer garnering anything but praise and excitement.

Like I said, I don’t need anything more to satisfy my Pilgrim craving – but I know that you guys might 🙂 . Here are some images from the trailer, courtesy of Collider:

Alongside Evans, Scott Pilgrim stars Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Die Hard 4), with appearances by Anna Kendrick (Up In The Air), Kieran Culkin (Igby Goes Down), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore).

Time to weigh in, Pilgrimites: Is the style of the film reflective of the books? Are the characters, so far as we’ve seen, like you imagined them to be? Are you as epically freaking Jonesed for this as I am?

August 13th can’t get here quickly enough. For those who might’ve forgotten, that’s when Scott Pilgrim vs. The World will be unleashed upon theaters.
