Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: Top 10 Best Moments From The Film

For any comic book fan, Scott Pilgrim vs The World is a real treat to watch. The 2010 action comedy film brought a beloved comic series and its character to life. Don’t be fooled, though, the film is still jam-packed with fun dialogue and even better visual effects.

Despite the film bombing at the box office when it was initially released, audiences couldn’t help but relish in the dynamic fight sequences and its comical scenes. Combing through the film, let’s take a look at the best scenes that had fans at the edge of their seat and were the most memorable moments.

Knives Copies Ramona

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: Top 10 Best Moments From The Film

Despite Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) being a bit awkward, he has a lot of luck with the ladies. He enchants a young girl named Knives Chau (Ellen Wong). When Scott falls head over heel with Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), he basically cheats on and ends his relationship with Knives.

The best scene is when Knives shows up at the band’s performance looking almost identical to Ramona. She copies her half black and blue hairstyle, her clothes and even her way of speaking. It baffles Scott and the band members tremendously. Her act to get Scott jealous doesn’t work out.

Sex Bob-Omb’s First Performance

Scott Pilgrim is part of a band called Sex Bob-ombs. Instead of being horrendous, they’re actually really good. Their first performance at the Battle of the Bands shocks everyone. Their song is catchy, melodic and a head bobber.

Their performance has Knives at the edge of her seat in excitement and even catches the attention of Ramona. She looks on with a small smile and admiration.

The First Kiss

Scott manages to somehow catch the interest of Ramona. When they go back to her house, he walks in on her changing. She doesn’t seem upset and they kiss for the first time. The best part was the added special effects when they kissed.

It’s the literal real-life version of what happens in comic books and anime. Bright pink hearts emerge when they kiss and the world stands still.

Fight With Matthew Patel

Matthew Patel and his demon hipster chicks

Almost every fight scene in the film is a spectacle. It’s comical when Scott is ambushed by Ramona’s ex, Matthew Patel (Satya Bhabha), and has no idea why. He is even more confused when he finds out that Patel has special powers.

What makes this scene memorable is when Patel starts dance fighting. He goes into a choreographed fight sequence while singing a tune about destroying Scott Pilgrim. The ‘demon chicks’ with monster teeth and bat wings add a level of creepy. To add more comedy, Patel is a bit emotional and Scott beats him quite easily.

Lucas Lee’s Intro & Fight

Seeing Chris Evans in the film might be a bit of a shock. He played Hollywood actor, Lucas Lee. Almost the entire scene with him is noteworthy. It might be the heavily raised eyebrows, the deeper-than-normal voice, or the overwhelming machismo.

When Scott first meets him, he is acting out a scene but focuses his attention on Scott. As the fight progresses, Scott mistakes Lee for a stunt double. Instead of fighting his own battle, Lee lets his stunt doubles do the work, as he texts.

 Lucas Lee’s Skateboard Trick

One of the more comical scenes is when Scott challenges Lee’s ability to do a grind trick on an extremely long stair rail. It’s also hard to not note that when Lee shifts his gaze, there’s an audible ‘woof’ sound, every time. He’s an actor after all. Lee takes the challenge and the special effects make the scene great.

The trick plays out like a video game scene with split-screens and close-ups. The fast-paced scene features sound effects put into words, with a flurry of sparks from the metal and the miles per hour increasingly rising in the corner. It also cuts to Scott and his friend looking bored and the occasional mediocre, “wow.”

Todd Ingram Battle

The battle between Scott and the super-powered vegan, Todd Ingram (Brandon Routh), is a scene many fans remember, especially when Todd punches Knives in the face in slow motion. Her blue highlights literally fly off of her hair. The scene shifts to Todd using his white florescent powers with a Dragon Ball Z look to his hair.

Envy (Brie Larson) hits Scott with the line, “Didn’t you know? Todd’s vegan.” It then turns serious with a bass battle. Todd wins with no competition. But its when Scott tricks him into drinking half-and-half that it gets better. Todd is stripped of his powers by the vegan police.

Kyle & Ken Katayanagi Fight

Scott has to battle Ramona’s fifth and sixth exes, the Katayanagi twins (Keita and Shota Saito). This battle is epic. The twins are DJ’s with immense power. Fans of the film can’t forget when they turned up the volume and two blue dragons came out of their speakers.

They twins literally tore the roof off of the venue. It only escalated as the Sex Bob-ombs created their own player resembling Donkey Kong. This was a battle to the death. Gorilla vs twin dragons.

The Clash At Demonhead Performance

Brie Larson singing in Scott Pilgrim vs the World

Many fans jaws dropped when Brie Larson performed as the lead singer Envy Addams for the band, The Clash, at Demonhead. This was way before the actor became known as Captain Marvel. Regardless, the scene is still one of the best in the film.

The song Envy sang was by Emily Haines, the lead singer of the band Metric. Audiences couldn’t help but be enthralled by the song and the band’s performance. Larson embodied the character well. The scene cuts between Envy, Scott, Ramona and Todd added extra tension. Scott just found out the guy Envy cheated on him with was Todd, who is also Ramona’s ex.

Knives & Scott Fight Gideon

Gideon and Scott face off in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

When it’s time for Scott to save Ramona from Gideon Graves (Jason Schwartzman), the final ex-boyfriend, Knives tries to kill her. When Scott is close to losing, Knives forgives him for cheating on her and Ramona. She joins forces with him to fight Gideon. This leads to a fun and intense battle scene.

Bright colors and effects fly around as Scott uses the “Power of Love” sword. Knives, using her own sword and combat skills, helps fight off Gideon. The scene unfolds into a whirlwind of combat, vibrant colors and slow motion.
