Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Complete Edition Release Set For January

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Complete Edition has finally set an official release date, firmly coming in January 2021. Although it was promised to come out during the holidays, it is a little behind that original plan, but only by a month or so. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is not the most well-known or popular franchise in comics, film, or gaming, but it has garnered a cult following over the years for its offbeat humor and charming story, and the news of the updated re-release of the game that came in September has left series fans squirming with anticipation.

The game is an arcade-style side scrolling beat ’em up that follows the story of the movie and the critically acclaimed comic books, leaning even more heavily into the film’s source material than the Edgar Wright directed silver screen outing. Up to four players can join in and play as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Kim Pine, or Stephen Stills, with NegaScott being unlockable and Knives Chau and Wallace Wells as downloadable characters. Each character has their own move set, which can be upgraded with experience points, and must fight their way through seven levels and past Ramona’s seven evil ex’s.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’s Facebook page announced in a post that the game’s Complete Edition re-release will be released on January 14 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Just a few hours after, series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley tweeted that he is “working on getting a physical release” for the game, but states that “it’ll be after [the digital release]” if it pans out. He also tweeted a reminder to his fans that the game’s publisher, Ubisoft, is only a company that real people work for, whom he says deserve patience and praise.

Ubisoft has called its re-release of the game the “Complete Edition,” but it seems there won’t be many changes from the original version that came out back in 2010. This year is the game’s tenth anniversary, so some celebration and something extra for fans was expected, but there isn’t much new content to get excited about. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Complete Edition will include the base game and the Wallace Wells and Knives Chau DLC, and NegaScott might be available from the start of the game. Online multiplayer will be available from the outset this time and the graphics have been spruced up for modern resolutions, but there appears to be otherwise little else to update the ten-year-old game.

The comic books use a lot of references from pop-culture gaming, making it easy to turn into an actual video game. One can see why Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game has got such a devoted fan base, as the original game was stayed true to it’s tie-in film and comics. Although there isn’t much new content being added, fans are still ecstatic about being able to play the game again in January after six years of it being off the market.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Complete Edition will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on January 14. 2020.
