Scott Pilgrim Director Teasing Video Game’s Return?

It’s been a decade since Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game hit stores before it was tragically delisted from the PS3 and Xbox 360 digital stores in 2014. However, a recent tweet from the tie-in film’s director, Edgar Wright, might be hinting at the game’s return.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game is based on the film of the same name. It is a side-scrolling brawler where players must fight their way through seven levels, and Ramona Flowers’ seven exes. Up to 4 players can enter the game, and can choose to play as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Kim Pines or Stephen Stills; four main characters from the source material, the Scott Pilgrim comics created by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Also, NegaScott is an unlockable character in the game, while Knives Chau and Wallace Wells are downloadable. Each character has their own unique abilities, which can be upgraded with experience points, and are able to use weapons picked up along the way.

The game hasn’t been available to buy for the last six years, but in May both O’Malley and Wright tweeted to publisher Ubisoft asking to bring the game back for the tenth anniversary of both the game and the film, with music composer Anamanaguchi showing support for the idea on Twitter too. In August, O’Malley tweeted about Ubisoft reaching out to him, but has kept exactly what was said under wraps. Now, Wright has written a cryptic tweet aimed at Scott Pilgrim fans, telling them to watch O’Malley’s feed for a surprise.

This tweet has come just in time for the Ubisoft Forward event happening today, in which news and content about Ubisoft games will be showcased. The publisher already has its hands quite full with the new games expected to be released before the end of the year. As well as being released for current-gen consoles, Watch Dogs Legion and Assassins Creed Valhalla are being prepped as launch titles for the Xbox Series X and S and the PS5. That being said, there is always space for something unanticipated at events like these, and the fans who responded to Wright’s tweet are anxious to hear the news, many of them hoping it will be about the game, and all watching O’Malley’s feed like hawks.

Being the tenth anniversary of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, it would be a perfect time to re-release the game. With a mysterious tweet telling fans that something from the creator is coming soon – and right before Ubisoft Forward no less, it is clear that something is in the works, so here’s hoping it’s the game coming back to digital storefronts before the year is over.
