Scorn Gameplay Trailer Is The Most Violent FPS Since DOOM Eternal

A new trailer for the upcoming horror first-person shooter Scorn was shown during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022 event, revealing some incredibly violent gameplay footage that may rival DOOM EternalScorn is set to launch around Halloween 2022 and the footage released so far means that it will be a perfect game for the season.

The most striking aspect of Scorn is its incredible visual design, with characters and stages that are inspired by artists like H. R. Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński. The player is lost in an alien world, which is home to all kinds of monsters that want to tear them apart. The world of Scorn uses biotechnology, which means the player will have to connect their body to the weapons available to them, as well as hook themselves up to all manner of unknowable machines, in order to progress through the game world.

The Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022 event featured new gameplay footage for Scorn, ahead of its October launch. The trailer features a lot of body horror, with a type of violence that is more disturbing than the action-focused bloodshed of the modern DOOM games. As such, fan hopes are high for a terrifying and gory adventure when the game eventually launches. The new Scorn trailer can be seen on the official Xbox YouTube channel.

The new Scorn trailer shows the protagonist with a tube coming out of their stomach, which resembles an umbilical cord, that needs to be pulled out. The player must use all kinds of bizarre weapons to tear alien monsters apart, leaving a gory mess in their wake. Scorn also features an embryo/cocoon creature, which the player will need to carry. The trailer closes with an image of an imposing building, which has shades of games that directly used H.R. Giger’s artwork, like Dark SeedScorn won’t be coming to Xbox One, as the developers have explained that older hardware can’t keep up with the game, and the visuals on display in the trailer certainly back this claim up, as Scorn is stunning, in a horrifying kind of way.

What’s perhaps most impressive about the Scorn trailer is that it’s an Xbox exclusive that’s launching in 2022. The fact that Starfield and Redfall were pushed to 2023 meant that Xbox consoles lost two major exclusives going into the holiday season, making the end of the year look extremely bare. The Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022 event was filled with exclusives, but most of them were for games arriving in 2023. A 2022 release date for Scorn is a huge deal in a year when so many big titles have been pushed back, even if Scorn‘s violent nature makes it better suited for Halloween, rather than the holiday season.

Scorn will be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S on October 21, 2022.
