Several months after the series was officially renewed for season 2, story details have been revealed following School Spirits‘ season 1 cliffhanger. In an update offered by series star Milo Manheim, it has been revealed that season 1 was merely the setup for a much larger story. Offering very little specifics, Manheim said “In the first season, you kind of figure it out, but nothing is really solved or resolved.” The Wally actor went on to conclude “That’s as specific as I can be because that’s truly what I know so far“.

The announcement of School Spirits’ season 2 wasn’t a huge surprise, as it quickly became one of Paramount Plus’ most successful original series to date. When the show was renewed in June 2023, School Spirits had already been acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, and there is no reason to think that won’t continue in season 2.

One of the strongest aspects of School Spirits season 1 was its strong ensemble, and season 2 is expected to continue that trend. Considering the massive cliffhanger, Peyton List is expected to return to the lead role of Maddie, and she will most likely be joined by the familiar faces of season 1. The major question going into School Spirits season 2 is whether or not Maddie is going to be able to reclaim her body from Janet’s supernatural possession. This will probably account for the majority of the story, with the two fighting back and forth between two different planes of existence. This will make a huge change from season 1, which was mainly focused on Maddie’s crime-fighting in the afterlife – which now seems pretty low-stakes in comparison to the new direction the show seems to be taking.

Season 2 of School Spirits could also offer some more backstory into exactly what happened to Janet, and how she assumed Maddie’s. The character was never seen in season 1, and only ever mentioned in passing, so it would be interesting to learn more about her history before she presumably becomes the show’s main antagonist. This would even give the series an opportunity for some flashbacks or even entire episodes set in the past, where they could answer several other questions about who these School Spirits characters used to be and how they became the people that they are now.
