School Of Rock Season 4 Updates: Is The Nickelodeon Show Returning?

School Of Rock Season 4 Updates: Is The Nickelodeon Show Returning?

School Of Rock aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon, but can fans expect a fourth? Based on the 2003 comedy musical of the same name starring Jack Black, Nickelodeon’s School Of Rock TV series premiered on the tween-oriented network in 2016. Loosely following the plot of the movie, the show sees a down-on-his-luck musician named Dewey Finn (Tony Cavalero) take a temp job at a prestigious Austin, Texas prep school teaching a class of middle school-aged kids.

While Dewey isn’t the greatest teacher, he does inspire his musically talented young charges – Tomika (Breanna Yde), Summer (Jade Pettyjohn), Freddy (Ricardo Hurtado), Zack (Lance Lim) and Lawrence (Aidan Miner) – to form a rock band and compete in a local Battle Of The Bands contest. With a pop song performed each episode and plenty of musical guest stars – Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, pop-rock outfit Hey Violet and YouTube star  JoJo Siwa included – School Of Rock was perfect viewing for the tween music fan.

While School Of Rock’s ratings were modest, the show was well received and earned itself two Emmy Award nominations in the Outstanding Children’s Program category. Critical acclaim or not, there hasn’t been a new season since 2018. So, can Nickelodeon viewers expect a fourth season of School Of Rock? Here’s what we know.

School Of Rock Season 4 Updates: Is The Nickelodeon Show Returning?

In November 2017 news broke that Nickelodeon had cancelled School Of Rock alongside fellow comedy series Nicky, Ricky, Dicky And Dawn. At the point of its cancellation, School Of Rock was a third of the way through its third season and aired its final 14 episodes throughout 2017 and 2018.

School Of Rock concluded with a two-part series finale titled “I Love Rock And Roll” that aired in early April 2018. The series finale saw Dewey faced with the difficult decision of choosing between his old life as a rock band member and his new life as a teacher.

According to a report from Deadline, Paramount Television – the main production company behind School Of Rock – had plans to shop the show to other networks in hopes it might get picked up for at least another season. Unfortunately for School Of Rock fans, it doesn’t look like anything concrete came of those plans as there hasn’t been any news of another network picking up the show since the finale aired. Currently, it looks like there won’t be a fourth season of School Of Rock.
