In a Marvel Universe changed by unknown forces, Scarlet Witch turned her greatest tragedy into new powers, as she absorbed Quicksilver’s powers for herself to become the Silver Witch. In Heroes Reborn #1, Blade discovers what happened to heroes in a world where the Avengers didn’t exist and learns Scarlet Witch has become even more powerful thanks to her fallen brother Pietro.
Heroes Reborn is Marvel’s latest event, which sees the entire universe changed in dramatic ways, as Blade the vampire hunter is the only hero aware of the previous, main universe readers are familiar with. The new universe is unrecognizable from the current Marvel Universe, as the Avengers never formed, the Squadron Supreme has become the greatest heroes on Earth, Black Widow and a handful of heroes are actually villains, and Agent Coulson is running for President of the United States. The first issue didn’t reveal what caused the massive changes but teases suggest Mephisto might be behind the new reality.
In Heroes Reborn #1 by Jason Aaron, Ed McGuinness, Mark Morales, Matthew Wilson, and Cory Petit, Blade discusses the changes to the Marvel Universe and what has happened to his former allies. He reveals Tony Stark was never trapped in a cave and became Iron Man, Iron Fist never left the mountains of Tibet, Wakanda isn’t more than a myth, and the Squadron Supreme of America has taken the mantle as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. One of the most shocking changes is the Scarlet Witch becoming the Silver Witch after the death of her brother, Quicksilver.
In this new world, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff were never reformed from their previous villainous past, and in a battle with the Squadron Supreme, Quicksilver was killed. Wanda would use chaos magic to absorb Pietro’s powers to become the hybrid villain, the Silver Witch. The power upgrade allows her to significantly speed up her spellcasting, as she’s said to use a hypersonic hex to cast more than a thousand spells a minute.
The new Silver Witch seeks vengeance against the Squadron Supreme for killing her brother. Her new speed spellcasting makes her an incredibly dangerous threat who is essentially Scarlet Witch but without the constraints of time while using his magic. That immediately makes the Silver Witch one of the deadliest beings in the Heroes Reborn universe. In the new event, it seems likely the new version of Scarlet Witch will use the new powers absorbed from Quicksilver to exact revenge on the Squadron Supreme.
