Scarlet Witch Is Marvel Phase 6’s Biggest Threat…To Kang

Scarlet Witch Is Marvel Phase 6’s Biggest Threat…To Kang

Since her debut, the Scarlet Witch has become one of the most crucial characters in the MCU, and she may have an even more important role in Marvel Studios’ upcoming films, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Phase 6’s Avengers films were announced by Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige at 2022’s San Diego Comic Con, with the Multiverse Saga building up to an epic battle against Kang the Conqueror, a variant of He Who Remains from Loki. While the Scarlet Witch’s role in Phase 6 is unclear, especially after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s likely she’ll have a key role in the ending of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.

Introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff began her MCU journey as an antagonist, a Hydra volunteer and soldier for Ultron, though it wasn’t long before she officially joined the Avengers. Wanda’s abilities have long been a source of scrutiny due to their unpredictable and often-dangerous nature. Her instability developed through Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, before coming to a head in Marvel Studios’ premiere Disney+ series WandaVision, in which Wanda realized her true potential as the Scarlet Witch. While her future is unclear following her apparent death in Phase 4, the Scarlet Witch could return in the MCU’s future to complete her destiny.

Scarlet Witch May Fulfill Her Destiny In Avengers 5 & 6

Scarlet Witch Is Marvel Phase 6’s Biggest Threat…To Kang

While Marvel Studios has always portrayed the Scarlet Witch as one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, WandaVision revealed a much darker prophecy for the former Avenger. In WandaVision‘s series finale, Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness reveals Wanda’s true identity as the Scarlet Witch, a being infused with chaos magic, and is more powerful than the Sorcerer Supreme, fated to destroy the world. Initially, Wanda appeared to renounce this path, choosing to save the residents of Westview instead, but Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness told a different story, as the Scarlet Witch emerged, corrupted by the power of the Darkhold.

The versatility and force of her powers make her apparent death in Multiverse of Madness seem like a ruse, as it’s hard to imagine that she wouldn’t return. If she does, her newfound control over her abilities would make her a formidable match for Kang the Conqueror. While He Who Remains debuted in Loki, the more villainous Kang the Conqueror made his entrance during Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, during which he was beaten by Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne thanks to the power of distraction. Should Kang face the Scarlet Witch in the MCU’s Phase 6, this would perhaps make for a much more brutal and cinematic fight.

How Scarlet Witch Can Help The Avengers Defeat The Council Of Kangs

Each variant of Kang that has currently appeared in the MCU has warned about the dangers of the multiverse, and this knowledge seems to suggest that Kang, formerly known as Nathaniel Richards, has some dominion over the multiverse itself. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s mid-credits scene introduced the Council of Kangs to the MCU, a group of Kang variants who have banded together, creating an even more terrifying foe for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. This group seems to be able to command the multiverse, with Kang the Conqueror himself having obliterated entire timelines, but it’s this strength that may also be his greatest weakness.

It’s possible that the Scarlet Witch is connected to the multiverse too, particularly after Multiverse of Madness, which saw her dream-walk into her Earth-838 variant and massacre the Illuminati with ease. One theory suggests that the final episodes of WandaVision and Loki season 1 coincide, with He Who Remains’ point of crossing “the threshold taking place at the same moment Wanda embraces the Scarlet Witch. The fact that both the Scarlet Witch and Kang the Conqueror are Nexus beings in the MCU suggest a battle between the pair is inevitable, which could result in the elimination of the Council of Kangs, though potentially at the cost of a stable multiverse.
